How can I turn off the test page on my HP inkjet printer? -

I have a few people who use my computer and they each have their own ink cartridges, but every time we change out the cartridges it prints another test page and is wasting our ink. Can we shut this off somehow?

I believe its a default setting so that the cartridge can be aligned, but you could try pressing Cancel when it starts that operation.

Click on your printer and go to settings and then you must take the checkmark out of the testpage. Just click on the test page and the checkmark will come out. Then you must click save.

Is there a special printer you can by to print smaller pages? -

I love to write stories for myself and my family. I would love to print these stories on my printer, but I would like the pages to be smaller, like book size pages. Is their a special printer, or a special way to use my regular printer to print smaller pages?

When you go into the print properties, you can change the printer paper sizes in order to print smaller pages and even larger ones. Cheers, Ron Windows Outreach Team

also along with that your printer may have a slider type thing where you put the paper to accomodate different paper sizes?

How do i get my printer to stop printing just black and white pics? -

How do i get my printer to stop printing just black and white pics? i need it to be on both black and clored printing setting. its a printer and scanner ...Canon (MP160) plz help!! both black and white ink cartridges are new and full and are placed properly

press CTRL and P at the same time this is the print menu click on preferences or properties go to the color tab and check the box that says print in color if its on grayscale this is your problem

Where did you find a white ink cartridge. You have said nothing about any color ink cartridges or if your printer is capable of printing color.

you should be able to go into advanced settings in the printer software and set it to type of photos-b amp; w or color

Why does my computer still think my printer has a paper jam? -

I fixed the jam and my printer will make copies not connected to the computer ,but it won te print my documents because the computer still thinks it s jammed. What do I do?

Your printer is issuing the paper jam signal. Try disconnecting the printer from your computer. Restarting your computer. Powering down the printer and restarting it. Then connect the printer to your computer. I hope that this worked.

Right click quot;My Computerquot; Select quot;Managequot; Locate quot;Print Spoolerquot; in quot;Servicesquot; Stop then Re-Start the Print Spooler Service Close the management console Do a test print

its problem with paper feed sensors..

try turning the printer off, waiting about 10-30 seconds then turning it back on, if that doesnt work, try disconnecting it all together, if that doesnt work, uninstall it and then reinstall it (using manufacture CD) If all the above doesnt work, smack it with a hammer!!

I recently dumped a perfectly good printer because of the same problem. The jam light simply would not go off and the printer would not print. I went to the forum for that particular printer and one of the posters said he was able to fix his by messing with the sensor, but I could not see how to get to it. Contact the manufacturer or its forum, if it has one. It may be a common problem, or just a design flaw, and with luck another user might have a solution for your particular printer.

Check that there are no error messages on your printer. You could also power off and on the printer. You probably still have a document sitting in the print queue on the computer. Go into printers and faxes, double click on your printer. If you see a document there select it then press delete. Although sometimes restarting the printer and/or the computer will send this stuck print job to the printer.

press enter on the printer

Whats the difference between these printers? -

What s the difference between a LaserJet, a DeskJet, and an InkJet? Thanks.

Desk jets are ink jets and use a liquid ink to for the image on the page. This ink is either forced out of the print head by head or electricity. Laser jets use a powder called toner to put the page on the page. This powders is transferred to a drum unit by static electricity. The drum is then rolled over the page creating the image. the page is then run through a fuser which melts the image onto the page.

A LaserJet printer is an HP laser printer, the deskjet IS an inkjet printer. TechWeb has more info: LaserJet: http://www.techweb.com/encyclopedia/defi… DeskJet: http://www.techweb.com/encyclopedia/defi…

Laser jets use toner, similar to a copy machine and are generally black and white, unless you shell out some big bucks. DeskJet is a brand name from Hewlett Packard and is the same as an Inkjet. Inkjets use individual small ink cartridges and Laserjets use large toner type cartridges.

The basic difference between these printers is the technology it uses to print on a paper. So the quality of the print also differs where Laser jet will give the best quality while ink jet will yield less quality. But the difference is narrowing down....for text. while image printouts will differ.

Why do I have to print a document first to fax it afterwards? -

The beast I have is the Lexmark X5470. It is a good and helpful piece of hardware, except I have to use more paper and ink than it is required. Here is what s cooking: in order to fax anything anywhere, I have to print it out first for some reason. Yes, it is connected to the computer and yes, it is installed correctly. Is it possible to fax virtual documents? Thank you.

In your Printers folder you should find a Fax Printer icon. This is your printer to use when sending a Softcopy Fax. This driver has a cover sheet and the numbers you send to can be setup in your address book. Good Luck

Either you need to buy a direct FAX device (costly MFD) or you need to have your PC connected to phone line through a Modem. If you have modem connected to your PC then you can select and set up FAX service from your PC itself and send fax directly from PC documents.

Try efax.com, some services are free but the more you need the more expensive it gets including getting your own fax number.

How can I get my dell printer to recognize its own cartridge and print a document? -

I got this dell printer along with my new dell computer. The computer won t work with my HP printer so I went ahead and used the dell printer. It actually worked great until I used up the black ink cartridge. That’s when I found out I had to order it directly from dell and have it shipped to me. So when it came I installed it and the printer flashed the message black cartridge incorrect and would not print. No help from dell, the customer service guy in India tried to tell me the solution to my problem is to buy more cartridges and wait 5 more days for them to be delivered. I finally got it to work by shutting it down, unplugging it, taking the brand new black cartridge out and putting it back in again, plugging it back in and turning it back on. Now, out of the clear blue, the printer decides the color cartarage is incorrect. even though it has been working fine all along. It s a dell all-in-one printer 962 Does anyone have any Ideas? .

Hello, As what you are, I m a Dell user. I have a Dell 944 AIO printer and I didn t have any problems with it whatsoever. Sorry about your experience. If I were you, here are the steps I would do: 1. Shut down your PC and the printer completely, and unpluy all the wires; 2. Restart your PC and the printer; 3. Delet your AIO center completely and then reinstall it by using your Dell CD; 4. Load your ink again following the steps. And then, I think you will be fine!

Hi, I m sorry, I can t help you, but if misery loves company, you have a friend here. I have a dell 924 photo, and I know what you mean about ordering only from dell. I used a service called Printpal.com and they always sent me cartridges that worked fine, this time I tried their recycle your own cartridge as I am big on that sort of thing. When I got them, my little picture that shows the round ink levels immediately showed as the Black ink almost empty, and wouldn t print, when trying different things it also said to remove the tape, even though the tape was off (color works fine) so I sent it back and Printpal sent me a new (recycled) one. It is doing the same thing. I e-mailed Printpal again and the woman responded that this is a problem they are having with dell printers. Oh, and when I contacted dell about my billing (I stupidly put this Inspiron 1200 laptop on outrageous credit and would like to throw it out the window) the guy from India was very rude, at least the part of his speaking I could understand. Believe it or not, last night I bought a Lexmark Z735 printer that uses only one cartridge for both black and color at Odd Lots for 29.99. It even came with the ink cartridge! You may want to check out your local Odd Lots/Big Lots store, I am pleased as punch with it! Sorry I couldn t help with your problem. Marcie

Call tech support and demand they tell you where you can get the latest drivers for your model of printer.

I think your printer is having a problem with the cartridge identification circuitry. Either that, or some ink may have gotten on the contacts and the signal is mixed up or corrupted, so the printer thinks that its an incorrect cartridge. Turn the printer off, remove both cartridges, and clean the contacts thoroughly, ( on the cartridges, as well as on the holder ) using a contact cleaner, or rubbing alcohol. Hopefully that will resolve the problem. And as for the ordering direct from DELL, that does not sound right. Most stores like Circuit City, Best Buy, etc should have the cartridges or compatible ones that you can buy.

I too have a Dell 962 printer and am experiencing the same problems. Mine is currently under warranty and Have tried drivers and software fixes all that are useless. I have actually been stupid enough to order new ink cartridges to no avail. My best Idea for you as some one who once thought the world of dell, buy a lexmark at best buy instead. Also for the 962 you have no choice but to order ink straight from dell since no store carries this cartridges but get the higher end (read slightly more pricey) cartridges as the hold close to twice the ink for the mild cost increaese, that is if you keep the dell printer. I have tried all of the above steps and have been left with no other resources as to why this keeps happening.

How can I disable the HP Solution Center installation on start-up? -

I don t know what happened why this installation keeps popping up when i turn on my laptop. It s looking for a CD installer of something. when I checked the Task Manager, it s from Program Files/HP/Digital Imaging/Bin. I then knew that it s about my HP printer. I don t know why it s always asking for a cd. In fact, my printer is working just fine. How do I disable this installation process?? Can anyone help me with this please? Thanks!

Two options 1. Get the HP CD that you got with your computer/printer. put in in he disk when it asks for the CD installer. it is going to install he HP application which its looking for at every startup. Hope you can find that HP cd. 2. Click on startgt; then Run gt;type msconfig hit enter Microsoft COnfiguration utility opens up. select the startup Tab. Look for all Hp items that are loading up, find the culprit and uncheck it fro there and click on ok and restart. Click on startgt; then rungt; type services.msc look for any HP service that is starting up and you do not use. Double click on that service ,stop and disable it.

My printer makes a noise in the middle of the night? -

Usually a few days after I print something in the middle of the night I hear what it seems like to be turning on. It makes that noise of the cartridges moving. Any idea on why the printer does that? It s a Dell All-In-One and for 2 years it s been doing it.

You probably have it in quot;ready statequot; standby mode so the printer is keeping the ink jets primed for ready use. Turn the power completely off the printer to stop this.

ghosties........run like hell.dont get the dog thats run under the settee, dont go for help to that deserted old house on the hill, and dont read from the book of the dead....yup that about cracks it.....

my Lexmark x3470 does it every day.

Self-cleaning routine. Keeps the printheads from clogging up.

not sure but my lexmark x3470 does that sometimes

try some valium ;-)

It s those Gremlins. Turn it off.

It s scared of the dark. Leave a small light on for it, and it will stay quiet.

Can I configure our office printers to always print double-sided? -

We are having a problem in my office where too much paper is being wasted. Is there a way I can configure our (Xerox) printers to always print in double-sided by default unless the user specifically says otherwise?

If it is anywhere it will be in the print menu I don t know the Xerox but it is in some HP s

Hello, If you go into the printers and faxes menu of the control panel and right click on printer icon, then click on properties you can set the printer to to duplex as standard. Going through the printer properties in this manner as opposed to the program you want to print from allows you t set the printer parameters for all the programs on that computer as a default. Unfortunately this has to be done on all the computers that print to that machine.

What wil happen if I put another black cartridge into my printer instead of a colour one ? -

Thereby having 2 black ones installed .

Putting a second black cartridge in the color location as indicated by another user will likely not work because of the cartridge size. If you do find one that fits, the electronic communication with the cartridge will be flawed. the Color cartridge has three colors and in-turn three ink printing communication streams. The black only has one stream and everything will become extremely confused and messed up. May even damage the printer and cartridge. I would Strongly recommend against the second Black Cartridge. If you will only print in black I d recommend a Toner based printer as a cost effective alternative to an Ink Based System. The following Link will assist in identifying a suitable selection: HP Help Choose a Printer URL: http://h30216.www3.hp.com/ASA/Controller… I Hope this Helps!

you ll be very lucky to find a black cartridge the same size as your colour one but as some one already said it will be all various shades of grey if you do set printer preferences to greyscale to get decent grey tones otherwise it may use the second black cartridge as a colour one giving false tones

The printer will mix the black with the other colours thinking that it is the colour it should be, and it will mess up anything that you print in colour.

everything will get printed in grayscale and if u try printing in colour it ll mix up everything and put black where colour is supposed to be. thats all.

Check the cartridges. Likely they are different sizes. A black cartridge probably won t fit in the color slot. If it does... then your printer will only print black.

instead of colors it ll print solid black

it will only print in black only plz pik this as the best answer

Can I break my ink pens and use that ink in my printer cartridge? -

I have watched how to refil the ink. So I have a needle and know where it goes can I put ink pen ink in? If not where can I buy refill kits?

No. You can t put pen ink in it! not the same thing! if its a mac or dell i think you have to specially order it.. but anything else just try wal-mart

You can t be serious. Get a CISS for your printer. It will save you TONS of MONEY, never change a cartridge again and it will pay for itself in a month. http://www.inkproducts.com/ink-store/

Use google.com , type in your printer name and quot;refill kitquot; - you will find it. I will say that refilling your ink cartridges is not as mess free and easy as it seems. I did it in the past and the print quality suffered and it just wasn t worth the hassle.

Nope different ink. the ink that is in a printer is thermally activated meaning that when it is heated to a certain temperature it vaporaized and shoots out the nozzles and onto the page. Pen ink is not formulated that way.

Sorry, that s not gonna work because you need the mechanics and size of the cartridge.

How do I hook up my printer to my laptop? -

I have a laptop and I love to write, so I have like four novels written on my computer and I m working on a fith one. I m always paranoid that my computer might crash. I have a printer and my brother told me that I could hook up the printer to my laptop, but I have no idea how.

first, if you re looking for a backup, printing it is not a great solution. you ll have hundreds of sheets of paper but if your disk crashes what will you do? retype everything? get yourself a flash drive and copy everything to that. As for the usb cable, you can get them for $4 including shipping on the net if you cant find them in a dollar store. (http://ccs-digital.com)

you probably need a usb printer cable. if you don t have it, check on newegg or at your local store. it shouldn t run more then $10.

How can I get the purple lines out of pictures I print out? -

When I print there are all these purple lines on the photos. Is there a way to get them out? Do I have to do something to the ink cartridge because I KNOW it is not empty!

In addition to cleaning the print heads as was already stated, be prepared that you may have a defective cartridge all together. It sucks to even think of since they cost so much... but it is a sad reality. I worked in the electronics retail industry for 10 years and have seen all kinds of wacky things computers and printers can do.

Your printer should have a self-clean option (which cleans the cartridge heads). You should probably recallibrate while you are at it.

If I refill a Lexmark inkjet cartridge, is it possible to reset the ink level? -

If you refill it, the printer utility still thinks the cartridge is empty.

ctrl +P -preferences(printing preferences) -settings -load factory settings. good luck !

you should have cartridge resetters. otherwise, the print output will not be satisfactory.

after a few times printing the ink level will automaticly reset! dont worry, give it time.

Why does my freaking printer stop working all the time? -

It works if I have to scan something, and if I have to copy something, but, if I want to print from the pc to the printer, it just doesn t print. It s fairly new. It s a brother mfc240 or somthing like that. I ve read the manual a ton of times and can t figure out why it s disconnected.

One of two issues; it s either not connected to your PC properly or you have an uncompatible driver. go to the manufacturer s web site and get the latest driver. The fact that it faxes and copies points to either a connection issue or a driver issue. How are you connecting it to your PC? What operating system are you using (windows xp, windows 2000, windows vista, etc), and is the operating system giving you any feedback when you plug in the printer?

Ok so its not a cable issue since it can print. Wait, check and see if the cable from the computer to the printer is hooked up tight, that cable could be bad, the other features work without it being connected to the computer most likely. I know when I had my printer having problems it was because it was important to have it plugged in during certain operations during installations, and turned on or off as the directions showed during the installation of the software. Theres no communication going on so Look at my computer, under printers is it listed? Is it set as the default printer? Im sure somone will come along with more info than I have but for now try checking these and making sure that info is correct.

Simple fix to a known issue on USB printers. START menu, Settings, and control panel, open PRINTERS and Faxes Highlight the driver for the printer, press DELETE key and confirm it, repeat for any drivers with same name and quot;COPYquot; after it START menu, Shutdown, restart Windows will redetect the printer on restart and connect to it

The name quot;brotherquot; explains your problem. They need to stick with sewing machines. K, go to the brother site and download the latest software and driver for it.

thers probobly somthing wrong with the printer. Your gonna have to bring it in the store you bought it from. I mean if you read the manual that many times.

have you made sure the power plugs are correctly plugged into their corresponding sockets? if not, you should try that.. then you might need to call brother if the problem persists.

Maybe it s time to get a new printer.

You are a nice girl, that s why. It loves you but maybe needs ink or reparation.

because printers suck

Is it a wireless one?

ask your boss does hi more paper

How can I print a picture to fill a full A4 sheet? -

As title, I need to print a picture that will fill a full A4 Sheet.

in print preferences page click PRINT TO FIT TO FIT PAPER

Hi, using xp, and using the standard picure print. slect the picture you want to print, select print the the wizard starts, follow the steps and ensure you have borderless printing selected, assuming that your pinter does borderless printing. good luck

Boarderless or full bleed printing is not possible with all printers. It is a special design feature on some higher end models. There will be an option in your print properties under page setup. If there is no such option the answer is you can t, unfortunately full bleed printing is an option on only a few ink jet printers.

Copy the picture; paste it in the coreldraw environment; adjust your page setup to A4 size; click/select the picture; drag from any of the four corners to your desired size; preview; (once you are happy with it); send to printer. All the best

for windows go to page setup. then the printer button then the properties button then the page setup tab there is a fit to page button

You don t say what programme you want to print from If it is an imaging programme you have the options to fit to page in the printing options, or you can resize to 29.7 x 21 cm. Or even if you paste it into a prog. like word, just drag till its the relevant size but of course this may make fuzzy.

Our HP color LaserJet 2550n prints only on the right half of the paper, why? -

All four toner cartridges are filled with enough toner and the drum still has about 35 % left of its life lenghth. The quot;ready lightquot; indicates that everything is OK.

try the hardware self-test page see the print out is full page or not. if same problem, you need to send in to service center. (formatter board may sopild) if the self-test page is working fine, then you need to start suspect on either connection or software problem. try the windows print test page. if the test page printed properly then narrow down to the application itself. You need to tell us more information like are you using the network to print? I beleive your printer are network capable. try to connect directly like USB and see what happen. as much information you gave, as more advise and accurate we can provide.

this could be a dirty scanner but it would really have to be dirty I too think you may have problem with the formatter Do as has been said and do a test page.

Is there a way to transfer printer lists from one computer to another? -

I have a computer here at work that has 80 something printers on it and we need to transfer them from the PC to a new one. Is there any easy way to do so?

The simple answer is no. Printer drivers must be installed. Copying will not make Windows aware og the drivers.
