I have 2 laptops running vista and an hp3000 series printer. How do I set up the printer as a network printer? -

I want to be able to print from any laptop anywhere in the house. I do not have a desktop nor do I want one. I currently have a d-link router

Assuming the 2 pcs are networked together then you can: go to the laptop with the printer, open the printers folder in the control panel right click the printer icon and choose quot;sharequot;. Now go to the other laptop and into the printers folder the choose Add new Printer Choose network printer choose browse select the printer you are good to go. You might need to visit the quot;network and sharing centerquot; in control panel (on the laptop with the printer) and make sure that quot;printer sharingquot; is enabled and possibly quot;network discoveryquot; is enabled. On the other laptop you may need to visit the network and sharing centre and make sure quot;netwrok discoveryquot; is enabled too. NOTE: this will only enable printing if the laptop with the printer is switched on. If you want more flexible printing then you should buy an inexpensive quot;print serverquot;. This is a small gadget (size of a pack or cigarettes) costs about $30-$50 and will share the printer via the router - instead of via a laptop. That way, you can print without the quot;hostquot; laptop being switched on. Print servers come in wired or wireless flavours. FOr extra stability I recommend a wired one. Then this will connect directly to the router by network cable and will just work. Adding another wireless device can be an extra layer of complication (but still basically sound) If you do this then on both laptops you would add a new network printer.

OK~~ Thank you for your answer! Great! http://www.toboc.com/forum3/DEFAULT.ASPX…
