Why do I have to print a document first to fax it afterwards? -

The beast I have is the Lexmark X5470. It is a good and helpful piece of hardware, except I have to use more paper and ink than it is required. Here is what s cooking: in order to fax anything anywhere, I have to print it out first for some reason. Yes, it is connected to the computer and yes, it is installed correctly. Is it possible to fax virtual documents? Thank you.

In your Printers folder you should find a Fax Printer icon. This is your printer to use when sending a Softcopy Fax. This driver has a cover sheet and the numbers you send to can be setup in your address book. Good Luck

Either you need to buy a direct FAX device (costly MFD) or you need to have your PC connected to phone line through a Modem. If you have modem connected to your PC then you can select and set up FAX service from your PC itself and send fax directly from PC documents.

Try efax.com, some services are free but the more you need the more expensive it gets including getting your own fax number.
