Why does file size increase when spooling to a printer? -

I don t know much about printers, but we have a Canon (colour) MFP at work. When I look at the properties of a PDF file it says 142KB. When I send it to print it takes ages to spool and says it s 18MB!? This has happened with various other files, some JPEGS. Why is this?

i dought u had a file that small. but it increases by reconverting the file or only the printer. you bought one bad printer though so it has to reconvert the file to make it larger to read the file.

Can you print a document on two printers at the same time? -

I have two printers, one old laser jet and one newer ink jet. I use them both but not at the same time. Can that be done?

Yes. You can have many printers connected to your computer at the same time.

of course, as long as you can connect them to your computer, like if you have 16 printers, you would need some USB hubs

How is double print on papers affect laser printer? -

I like to re-use paper for printing to save on cost and of course the trees, so I ll put those paper which printed only on one side back into the tray for re-printing on the other side, but I was told this can spoil or affecting laser printer roller feed, is it any truth in it? Thanks

When paper is printed on with a laser printer, there is always a very light, fine toner dust that is left on the paper other than the actual print (one user I had kept re-using sheets of labels and printing only 1 or 2 labels at a time and complained of how dirty gray/black the sheet kept getting after each printing. They too were trying to save money, but the result was the remaining labels getting dirtier with each time). This dust acts like an abrasive and over time will deteriorate feed rollers and retention rollers/pads, and cause paper feed problems quicker than if they used clean paper each time. Re-using paper as you stated will cause them to wear out quicker and cause them not to pick paper reliably or cause multiple sheets to feed at one time. Printers that are duplex printers and print both sides during the same print job use a separate paper path for the second side and therefore don t use the initial rollers that would be affected by putting the paper back into the paper tray for re-use (many people don t understand the difference and assume that it s all the same). The other problem of reusing paper as you stated is that once paper has gone through the fusing assy the heat removes most of the moisture content from the paper and resuing it will most probably result in poorer print quality and paper jams (usually due to static buildup in the paper since the moisture content of the paper reduces static buildup and it was removed in the fusing process. You will see evidence of this when pieces of paper cling to each other instead of separating easily.) Also the lack of moisture in the paper can cause the paper to curl which can also cause paper handling problems. You are welcome to reuse paper as you see fit as long as you are aware of the potential problems and side affects. Many people do this without much problem, but are confused when they do have problems surface and blame the printer instead of the re-cycled paper. Best of luck.

laser printers have a clean-up felt-face bar that scrubs off any unused toner off the image drum. so, for starters you are decreasing the lifespan of that scrub bar. previously printed paper will have a curl to it, chances of a misfeed. laser prints average about 27 to 50 cents apiece to print. too many people use the office laser printer like a printing press when they should produce one master copy and go over to the copy machine.

What is a Win 98 Compatible MFC with Networking capability? -

Needs to be WIN 98 compatible printer with flatbed scan, fax, copy etc. Phone and message center would be a *huge* plus. No particular brand in mind. Thanks!

Good luck on that one! Check ebay. If you find one, hope and pray it works and then be prepared to pay a fortune for ink IF you can find it! Youre better off upgrading to XP. Youll be money ahead in the long run

You are looking at buying a used printer, no new printer on the market today is supported by win 98. Also networking will be a nighmare. You will need all of your windows 98 OEM CD s (for each machine) as well as the software for you network adapters. Each computer needs to be manually configured. Message centre - not going to happen. I would opt for a printer like an HP Officejet V40, you can pick on up on Ebay for about $30 and a set of cartridges will cost you about $60. They are work horses. You will have a much easier time upgrading to XP.

Why are my photos from my Canon printer so dark? -

How do you get Canon MP600 to print photos that are not darker than they appear on the screen? I have been using genuine ink and Canon satin paper SG-201. Any ideas?

You will have to calibrate your printer to your screen, so that they produce the same image. There is a device that does this automatically, found in the photo editing isle of the local software store. It s not expensive, and well worth it if it bothers you so much.

Thanks for that advice - and cheers to all of you who answered that questions. I ll look into it. Report Abuse

Either it is dumping out too much ink, or your brightness on your monitor is cranked up and you don t notice how dark it really is

well you can actually set it to be brighter depending on what computer you have

I don t know but I have the same problem..... DAMN YOU CANON.

Can someone help me with downloading the driver for a Lexmark Z25 printer? -

I have tried to download the driver, but everytime I do it either doesn t finish and just closes out, or the folder is empty. What am I doing wrong?

http://www.downloaddelivery.com/en/cpddr…

go to www.lexmark.com. select driver and downloads in the top right of your screen. To the right of the driver and software option select download a driver. Under the search by product type option select INKJET. You should see all of the inkjet printers showing up. In the bottom right you should see the Z25 listed click on that model. In the middle of the screen you should see the word (Drivers) in BOLD print. Click on driver and downloads below. You should see all the available drivers showing. Click on the driver that is compatible with the operating system you are using. If you are using windows XP then click on the driver that says quot;system driver for microsoft windows XP.quot; Again, choose the driver that is compatible with the operating system that you are using. Enjoy your computer.

What do I need to/How do I print wirelessly from my printer? -

My bedroom is upstairs and the printer is downstairs hooked up to another PC. How would I wirelessly print from it without having to put it to my flash drive and go downstairs to print it?

setup printer sharing on that pc. To share your printer Open Printers and Faxes. Right-click the printer you want to share, and then click Sharing. The options you see on the Sharing tab differ depending on whether sharing is enabled on your computer. For instructions on what to do next, click the option that describes what you see on the Sharing tab. I see text stating that printer sharing must be turned on You need to enable printer sharing by running the Network Setup Wizard. Start it by clicking the link on the Sharing tab, and then follow the instructions. Once sharing is enabled, begin this procedure again. I see options for sharing or not sharing the printer On the Sharing tab, click Share this printer, and then, in the Share name box, type a name for the shared printer. If you share the printer with users on different hardware or different operating systems, click Additional Drivers. Click the environment and operating system for the other computers, and then click OK to install the additional drivers. Drivers for users running other versions of Windows (Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0) are located on the Support CD. Printer drivers for Windows NT 3.1 and Windows NT 3.5 are not included. Click OK, or, if you have installed additional drivers, click Close. If you have followed the steps listed above and still cannot share this printer, open Windows Firewall. (To open Windows Firewall, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Windows Firewall.) Then, on the Exceptions tab, select the File and Printer Sharing check box. Notes To open Printers and Faxes, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Printers and Faxes. You can also share a printer in Printers and Faxes by clicking the printer you want to share, and then clicking Share this printer under Tasks in the left pane. This option is available only if folders are set to look like a Web page and a printer is selected. For more information, click Related Topics. Printers are not shared by default when you install them on Windows XP Professional, but you can choose to share any printer you install on your computer. When you publish a printer in Active Directory, other users logged onto the Windows domain will be able to search for the printer based on its location and features such as how many pages it prints per minute and whether color printing is supported.

You need to network your computers and enable File amp; Printer sharing. You will obviously need a wireless router somewhere in the picture as well and If your printer is hooked up direct to the downstairs computer, that computer will have to be on for you to print. Otherwise you could also get a network printer server (about $60), assign an IP and have a quot;networkquot; printer.

enable network printing from your main computer that is hooked up to it. then just install the software from the printer to your pc/laptop and your good to go.

First, of course, the PC downstairs will need to be on. Then the printer will need to be shared on that computer. Upstairs, you will need to install the printer as a network-connected device and use the machine name and share name from the downstairs PC as the path.

There are actually alot of different ways to solve this problem. I will try to explain as many as possible until I get tired. First you have to find out if your printer already has wireless built in. Some fancy printers already have it. If not, you will have to buy a wireless print kit from Circuit City. Found here...http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-bt450-… This will turn your printer into a wifi connection or bluetooth connection so then you can locate the wifi connection via a wireless card. For example laptops have a wireless card built in. Depending upon if you have a Desktop or laptop in your bedroom, you might have to buy a wireless dekstop adapter.... Anywho...Then in your bedroom, on your computer, you will need to(for windows xp) install the software it came with and connect to the printer. If your wanting the other computer downstairs to connect to the printer, you might have to get another wireless print kit for the other computer. Another way is to get a wireless router for the downstairs. Since the computer is already hooked up to the downstairs computer, plug the computer into the wireless router to make it wifi which also makes your printer wifi...in a sort of sense. Now, use your computer upstairs, assuming its got wireless card of some sort, and connect to the router also by search for wireless connections in the area and connecting to it. NOW, here is a little tricky part. If running windows xp, or anything below, go to START gt; PRINTER AND FAXES. If you dont have that shortcut, go to START gt; CONTROL PANEL gt; PRINTER AND FAXES. Then on the left hand side there is a quot;Add Printer.quot; If you dont see that go to FILE gt; ADD PRINTER. Here you will tell your computer that there is a printer downstairs. There will be a setup wizard. When it asks you how you want to set it up, choose a network printer or a printer connected to another computer. To make it easy select quot;Browse for a printer and it wil locate servers or computer that have a printer hooked up. If all went well, it will find your printer on your downstairs computer and then go from there and it will install the necessary files and drivers it needs, If it didnt find it then you need to go to the downstairs computer and go to START gt; CONTROL PANEL gt; PRINTER AND FAXES. Right click the printer and click on quot;Sharing...quot; There you will tell it to be visible on the network and it will then show up on your upstairs computer when browing for a printer. If that doesnt work, your downstairs computer has a non-windows firewall, like zonealarm or norton. In that case, you will have to go into the settings of that program and tell it to allow your printer to share itself over the network. If all works correctly, the only way for your upstairs computer to work on the downstairs printer is that the downstairs computer is on. The printer is going through the downstairs computer and if its off, your laptop cannot reach the printer. Keep that in mind. ;p Another way is to hire someone to come out and do it for you. You are probably looking at $150 + depending on which company you go through. I currently work for Circuit City. I cant state a price on here because prices change but we would charge you for 2 computer to work off of one printer around $149.99 + the parts we would need to hook it up. Another way is to buy a printer that has a wifi/bluetooth card already on it. It will state it has it on the box so you know before you buy it. Then, all you have to do is connect to it via your wireless card from your laptop. THAT would be the EASIEST way. =P Of course the printers run you abot $399+ BUT they are awesome printers and will last you a lfe time if you treat them right. Hope that helps for you. If you run into any problems e-mail me.

How does resolution, scanning depth and dpi relate to printers? -

I m looking to buy a multi-functioning printer and I am trying to understand if I want the dpi and resolution to be HIGHER or LOWER. Also, the scan resolution; should that be higher or lower? The max scanning bit depth...what does that mean? And what is a duplexer?

Important Printer Terminology Understanding printer terminology helps one to search for, select and operate printers in a better and effective way. One of these important printer terms is DPI which stands for Dots per inch. It is a quantity used to define the resolution of printer images. The higher the DPI, the greater will be the details with which the image is displayed. The term used to measure the printing speed is known as PPM. PPM stands for pages per minute and defines the number of pages printed by a machine in one minute. Another important term used to define the performance of a printer is bit depth. It defines the number of various color tones linked with a dot. A bit depth of 1 implies 2 colors, a depth of 8 implies 256 colors and that of 24 implies 16.7 million colors. Color balance is a term used to describe the print quality. It is a measure of an image color cast. Duty cycle is the number of printed pages a printer can produce as an output. The higher the duty cycle, the more efficient a printer is considered to be. Fade refers to a point at which the printed photograph appears lighter than the remaining points. AIO and MFP stand for All in one and Multifunction Printer respectively. These terms refer to machines that are a combination of printer, copier and scanner. An inkjet printer terminology is CYMK which defines the inkjet colors. In CYMK, C stands for cyan, Y stands for yellow, M stands for magenta and K stands for black. A term used as an alternative for printer brand name is OEM which stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Different terms used to explain types of printing are duplex printing, 4x6 printing, 6 ink printing, 7 ink printing and 8 ink printing. Of these, duplex printing refers to two sided printing whereby the printer itself reverses the page after one of the sides has been printed. 4x6 printing produces photograph of snapshot size, while 6, 7 and 8 ink printing technologies employ multiple inks to produce high quality, clear and bright results. Anti aliasing is an important technology whereby a printer applies mathematical formulae to improve the resolution of character edges. Letter Quality refers to a printer that is able to produce text similar to that produced by a type writer. Near letter quality refers to dot matrix printers which produce text almost similar to that produced by a letter quality printer. Paper capacity indicates the maximum number of papers or other media a printer tray is able to contain. Print zone refers to the part of the sheet on which the printer is supposed to print. Borderless printing is a terminology used to define a technique whereby photos are produced by a printer with no blank spaces at the edges of the page. Brightness refers to the lightness or darkness of the printed image. A pixel refers to one of the thousand dots of which a digital photograph is made of.

Lt s make it short and sweet. The dpi will determine how crisp the image will turn out. Ex... 300 is the standard but, you can scan at 600 for a higher resolution output or scan. You don t have to worry about the depth of the scan as this is done automatically. The duplexer is good for double-side printing. You don t have to take the paper and flip it if you want a double-sided printing. When you print, if you select 600 dpi, that will give a crisp, sharp image especially on glossy paper.

What is the meaning of DUTY CYCLE in relation to Laser Printers? -

What will happen if i cross the duty cycle limit? my Samsung Laser printer got malfunctioned when i crossed the limit!

duty cycle is just a recommended limit by the manufacturer and does not indicate the limits of the printer because setting changes the user can make. Duty cycle indicates amount of pages per month the computer can print without malfunction.

Is there a way to get high quality print outs without special paper? -

Ok well on a computer screen you can have really high quality photos. But then you print it out and the colours go darker and it doesnt look as good on paper. I know that if you buy photo paper or special paper, the colours are brighter and whatever. but is there another way to get pictures to print out and look just as bright and vibrant as they do onscreen without the fancy paper. ive already tried setting the printer settings to quot;bestquot; and all that.

No there isn t, the paper is just as important to the print as the ink. If you want a fancy looking picture, you need a fancy paper.

Change print options in your printer and try to change pixels in photos.

Yes you can by purchasing Bright white paper. The contrast will show much better and secondly, go in your printer s menu and select quot;BESTquot; for output. That will give you a nice print as well it won t be glossy finish.

No. For the highest quality prints you pretty much need high-quality paper. Standard paper is just too dull and course for that kind of stuff

How do you clean the print heads? -

I have a Epson Stylus C86 and I was told that the print heads are probably clogged. How do I clean them.

Sometimes constant cleaning does not work. Take out all the ink tanks, then take out the printer head. Soak the print head in Isopropal Alcahol for 12 hours. Meths is ok but ISO is better. Put everything back in with new or refilled ink tanks. Do all the cleaning process again and print test pages

There s a utility that comes with it, it should be accessible by bringing up the Properties of your printer. If the first clean cycle doesn t work, try again a couple more times.

What is the best wireless multifunction all in one printer on the market now? -

i m looking to purchase a wireless multifunction printer but i need one that prints fast and isn t too expensive

Have a look at Kodak; their latest wifi printer has plenty of bells amp; whistles, and the ink is way cheaper than Lexmark amp; HP stuff... I ve had no problems with mine, except Kodak keeps trying to install their on-line photo services which is a minor pain in the posterior.

Probably a Lexmark All-In-One

Why does my printer mess up when trying to print multiple pages? -

My printer works fine when I print one page at a time. When I try and print several pages at a time, it messes up and just starts printing blank pages. Also, when I print a text file or something in notebook or web based programs, it will not bring up a screen that asks from what page I want to print or how many pages I want to print, it just instantly starts printing. Is this normal?

I think that you have two problems here one is the driver, so I would delete and reinstall the driver. Sending out blank pages is sometimes something to do with the document that is being printed but reinstall the driver to see if this goes away. if not go through the printer properties and check everything. sometimes there is a box that says something along the lines of printer first.

How can I set the default printer for my computer (specifically when printing from the web)? -

Printer on and connected Start Control Panel Hardware and Sound (or Printers in XP) Printer single click over the printer you want at top, select quot;Set as defaultquot; Best to set it from your control panel option. I m guessing you have a PC. cursor to the Start button and find the Control Panel. Make sure your printer is connected and quot;Onquot; also assuming Vista, look under the quot;Hardware and Soundquot; and then you will see the printer option. select Printers and you should have a window that opens and shows your printers installed. Single left click over the printer you want as the default and select quot;Set as defaultquot; at the top of the page. XP is slightly different. Let us know what you have.

Anytime you print from an application and the box for printing pops up and lists the available printers, you can right click on your choice and select Select As Default Printer.

How do I reinstall LexBce to my computer? -

I tried to follow the instructions that lexmark gave me by deleating all lexbces.* instances that I found on the computer. Then I m supposed to extract LexBce.* from the disk that came with the printer. I m good so far, I think, I know how to find it on the disk but they tell me to go into command prompt and I m lost there. I m afraid I m going to make the problem worse. I m running Windows XP with a Lexmark 3100 series printer. The spooler has stopped. I know about the dependencies. I ve got RPC started but when I tried to restart the Lexbce it gave me an error message telling me that it couldn t be started in a timely manner. I hope this is enough detail.

Sometimes it s just easier to uninstall the entire printer then reinstall it from scratch. I ve got an old X1150 all in one and had a similar problem last year. The Lexmark techs were helpful and all, but nothing seemed to work. My memory ain t what it used to be but I seem to recall going into the menu (start gt; all programs) and right clicking on Lexmark gt; uninstall gt; follow the prompts and wizards. Once the printer was uninstalled I did an advanced search for all files and folders containing Lexmark (start gt; search gt; all files and folders and check marked 1st three items under more advanced options.) Found several references to Lexmark, deleted them all and rebooted. From that point the printer reinstalled without hitch. plrr

Can anyone recommend a relatively cheap printer that can be used occasionally but will not get blocked heads? -

My M-I-L has an epson c64 printer which the print heads have completely blocked up on as it doesn t get used very often and sits in a hot room in the summer. We re looking for a replacement for it but need some recommendations. She likes to be able to print photos but doesn t need anything fancy. Thanks in advance!

The hot room does not cause clogged jets, leaving the printer on does. Laser printers do not have that problem. I just bought a Samsung Laser CLP300 for $128. Yes it was on sale, a great printer, I also have an Epson CX9400Fax. Epson printers use too much ink so I installed a CIS and now ink costs next to nothing.

Can you print transparencies on a regular printer without it smudging? -

I have a presentation coming up and don t wanna pay a printing center to do it if my printer can (for free). I have an HP psc 2175 all-in-one printer if that helps.

yea. you should be able to go in the print properties and set it on transparency. i know ive seen it before

yes you can. Just make sure that the transparency has the ROUGHER side toward the printer print head (that is if it is supposed to face up, the rough side is facing up, if it is supposed to be facing down, it faces down. Many printer manufacturers have a tutorial for printing transparencies in the help file) I have used inkjet printers to print them for a few years now and have never had one smudge or take a long time to dry, the thing is that you have to have the transparencies made for inkjets.

yup you just have to buy transparencies designed for your style of printer, in your case ink jet. It is always a good idea to let them dry for a few seconds before handling to ensure that they do no smudge.

Inkjets have problems printing on them. What makes them work on the big copy machines is that it heats the transparency and literally burns in the letters. With your little hp, think paint on plastic. It may work, but you have HIGH risk of smudging, beading and long dry times.

Yes, they actually make a type of transparency for regular printers and they make another for copiers....just make sure you get the right one or you will experience the smudge effect.

Both the red and green light on the top of my printer are flashing? -

Please can anyone help me I have been trying to sort this out for the past couple of hours and am about to throw printer out of the window!!! Both the red and green light on the top of my printer are flashing alternately which means I need to change my ink, which I did earlier this evening. When I press the red and green button together the printer head will not move so I cannot change the cartridge, everything is stuck and I have tried using SSC utility and it will not let me move the print head either!! I have unistalled the drivers and reinstalled them, turned the printer off and unplugged it and still nothing!!

when you changed the ink did you remove the plastic strip over the electrical contacts? It sounds like your printer is not recognizing the fact that there is a cartridge installed....take both cartridges out and reinstall them (check to make sure the contacts are clear)...after that try to print a test page...some printers will continue to display a fault until they align the print heads....Hope this helps

that tells you that you are low on ink.

How do I fix my printer? -

I have an HP printer. I once forgot to refill the tray with paper so it didn t print. But when I put some more paper in, it still wouldn t print. I urgently need to print something and I m stuck. There are no instructions in the manual about this situation and the help section from the program doesn t give any details about this. Please help.

Without knowing the model it is difficult to go into specifics, however many HP printers have fussy sheet feeders - the paper needs to be pushed firmly to the back and possibly even under a small amount of compression for the feeder to pick it up. Make sure the paper is fully inserted as far as you can push it.

Try this....Shut down your pc, shut down your printer, unplug your printer from electricity, wait a few minutes, plug your printer back in, turn on your printer, turn on your pc.

How can i download my printers info onto my computer if i dont have the installation CD? -

k so i bought this printer long time ago and now i want to connect it to my new computer but the thing is i lost the installation CD~~! any way i can download it from online or smethng? i hav a HP Deskjet F4135 printer thanks!

go to hp web site and download your drivers from there

go to hp site and get the drivers you need for your printer and operating system. http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/supp…

You can download the drivers you need from the HP website. I have given a link below as you will need to let them know what type of operating system etc that you have. http://welcome.hp.com/country/au/en/support.html

HP is the caddilac of puters, I have never loaded my disc, and the puter recognizes it. Just connect the printer to power souce, then the puter, and start puter. It SHOULD Recognize new hardware. then When you want to print it will ask you, ummm microsoft mem or (in my case pixma 6600) Just chose the printer, and you should be good to go. IF NOT then you need to go to the Hp website and download your info.

Printer Drive here. Select your Operating System. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw…
