What are common reasons for a printer to stop printing properly? -

My printer stopped printing anything except a faint smudge or two. I replaced the ink cartridges, but the smudges are still all I get. Any suggestions? Printer: Epson Stylus CX5400 All-in-One

Try cleaning the print heads. It should have directions on how to do this somewhere in the software included with the printer (you don t clean them yourself, the printer does it automatically). If it s a cheap inkjet all in one you might have to get a new one if that or anything else doesn t work.

Use the printer auto test

Two words NEW PRINTER

If you right click the particular printer icon and choose properties, under tools you will find some way to clean the printer head. (may be under maintenance). Try it.

if you have just replaced the cartridge you may have forgotten to remove the tape that covers the place where the ink comes out other than that it may be dirty

Quite simply the print head is clogged. It doesn t matter how many new cartridges you install since the print head is in the printer itself. The only remedy is to do a number of print head or nozzle cleanings (your manual will tell you how to do this) If you fail to see any improvement you may need to service or replace the printer.

u may need ink or some more paper... and if that doesnt work u might need to get yourself a new printer

What (preferably cheap) printer should I buy for my laptop? -

I have an hp pavilion dv 6000 and I want to buy a printer for it. I ll mostly just be printing a few pages of sparse text every other day or so. What printer should I buy?

If you re printing text, a low-end mono laser printer is the best. My favourites are the Samsung ML-2010 and the Canon LBP3100. The Samsung is the cheaper of the two. I use one in my office for low-volume printing and it s been a good unit for the price.

I have the same notebook as you do. I bought mine almost 4 years ago. Have been t hinking of new one as letters are getting rubbed off mine I use it so much. I have an all-in-one but it is stationary and not portable like the laptop. I do have a machine I got for doing photos and copies and it does scan. It is in a box so I can take it in one hand and carry it places as the box has 2 handles with hand holes. But it is not really as small as I d like for portability, yet it works. It will depend on your money and what you can find. Prices have come way down. I got mine for about $79 and it uses 93 and 94 cartridges for ink. It is a photosmart I think. It is not the one with the screen that pops up. But go to places like the office stores but also to Costco or Sam s Club if you have membership or a friend with membership. If you have a discount appliance and computer store, check that out as well. Walmart could be checked. I checked at an office store and went to Sam s Club and got it there. I now belong to Costco which is similar to Sam s Club. I am not sure the computer prices and printer prices are as good or not. But check a regular store first and then go looking in discount stores. Good luck.

How do I get my printer to print lighter? -

My printer is running low on ink and I don t wanna go get more ink, I wanna squeeze what I have left out. I seen some people print papers lighter to save on ink, is there any way I can do this with a Lexmark P4350?

Try going under properties for the printer. You should be able to adjust the quality there.

How do you share a printer with windows Vista and XP? -

Make sure on your Vista machine you have quot;file and print sharingquot; enabled. Make sure you have a home network or workgroup established and it finds both machines. Install the printer on your Vista machine and set it for shared, give it a network share name, and then go to the Xp machine and map to that printer, starting with your computer name\printer share name.

It depends on how your computers are connected (crossover cable, hub, router, switch, and how many ports that equipment might have), to a certain extent, and which version of XP and Vista you have. Also, whether your printer supports networking or wireless also can change how you want to set it up. But first thing, you need to establish a home network. You should probably do this with a router to isolate your computers from the outside a bit, so, depending on how it s set up, people aren t probing your computer and sending huge documents of nothing through your printer (unlikely, but possible). How you proceed next depends on which versions of the operating systems you have, how many users, and how you want to manage the printing. Basically, there are a lot of ways to do it, but each way depends on some critical piece of information that you haven t stated: XP Home or Professional and Vista Basic, Premium, Business, Ultimate; As well as how the two computers are going to be connected - crossover cable, wired to a hub, switch, or router (and how many ports are available), wireless, and whether your printer supports networking or wireless. There are whole multiple chapters on setting this up in just about any advanced windows book out there, so it s not necessarily straight forward, depending on how you want to do it.

How can I set my printer up as wireless? -

I have my laptop setup as wireless (using a Netgear dongle) and my wife s laptop runs of the same wireless router (Netgear) using internal hardwear. All of this seems a bit pointless because if we want to send stuff down to the printer we have to get the USB cable out. Is there an inexpensive way to talk to the printer quot;wirelesslyquot;?

Yes, they make wireless Print server boxes. They are reasonable. Here s one. There are many others. Some that can be used for Parallel printers too I believe. This one supports up to 4 USB printers http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores… Check Pricewatch for others..

Wireless printer would be cool and all wouldn t it! Setting up a hub to the wireless router and then network the laptops together. So the hub is conected to the router and then hook the cable up to the printer from the hub. I hope this helps some what?

Linksys has a wireless print server for USB and parallel printers. Netgear has the same thing. They are available for about $100 from many computer stores like Best Buy or CompUSA. A link is included below for the Netgear on TigerDirect so you can see its options.

if the printer dosent have wifi then no but if it is wifi enable lookup an online guide to it but another way if it has an LAN port, get a ethernet cord and plug one end into your router and one end into the printer and then goto print... or ctrl+p then you ll see a window and below it some buttons, click the one that says find printer and there ya go... good luck

S***! I ve been tinkering with my old wireless all afternoon trying to turn it into a printer, but it s the other way around. I m too old for all this techno nonsense.

Is there an easy way? Dell 922 does not communicate after window updates? -

My Dell 922 printer appears to be installed, but I cannot get it to work. It is not visiable in the panel control/printer section. It is listed as working under hardware in image devices. The icon in tool bar indicates no connection when i try to start it. I have XP with upgrade to sp3.

Do other USB devices function OK ? When I installed SP3 ALL my USB stuff stopped functioning, printers, external hard drives, scanners, the LOT. Only thing that fixed it was uninstalling SP2 Seems to be an issue on certain setups.

Is it possible to buy a needle for printer ink cartridge refilling? -

I bought a refilling set for refilling my printer cartridges and I lost the needle to put into the other thing that measures the ink for ML (millileters) and I can t refill the cartridge without the needle unless there is something else I could use or if there s somewhere I could buy a separate needle to inject, do you guys recommend anywhere? Like Canadian Tire, Staples.. etc anywhere? please respond to my question thanks.

To be honest I would think not as they usually come complete. I think you can buy a syringe for filling for not much money is some places. You will have to buy another refill kit earlier than you would and use that syringe and just keep the ink in ready for when needed. I have loads of the things in my house as each time I have bought a kit I continue to use the syringes from the previous kit and keep all the new syringes as they can also break off on the ends making them to sharp to go in. Sorry I did not have an actually suggestion but if I think of one I will re-post for you. Edit This site sells the syringes - go down towards the bottom. http://www.inkfilling.com/inquiries/thre…

I think the best solution for you is to buy a new syringe in any drug store and do your refill with it. The bigger the best for this job, this way you can do your refill in just one charge. If you have more questions about your printer s ink, refill kits, remanufctured cartridges, etc. You may want to visit this blog with plenty of information about it, see below.

How do I fix printing problems with my Epson Stylus CX7000F? -

I am having problems with my Epson Stylus CX7000F printer. Sometimes it prints, but most of the time it doesn t. When I try to print, I get a message from the Epson software stating that the printer is not ready to print. It is on and there are no other pending documents. Sometimes I try and it prints fine. How do I fix this problem? I have tried the Epson website, but have found no solution.

The solution may be in your driver. Go to the website and download the newest driver for your printer. DELETE the old printer, Uninstall the driver and reinstall the new one. Reboot and see if this alleviates the problem.

Exactly what benefits do I get from installing more printer memory, into my Epson Laser printer? -

I m trying to figure out if it is worth it to buy more memory for an Epson Aculaser CX11nf - it comes with 128Mb on board and you can add up to 256 more (the memory is proprietary). I do print alot of graphics but it seems fine as is. Is there a chance that I would not be able to print some graphic with only 128Mb or would it just be slower? If you have this printer then I would be extra interested in your experiences with it as well. Thanks! :)

Extra memory in the printer will speed up the data transfer from the computer to the printer only. You will not notice any gain unless you are printing several documents at the same time. The computer will be ready for the next job faster. The printer will print at the same speed, but it will not have to wait for the jobs to come over from the computer. Under normal printing you will not notice any difference.

Where can I download any software I need for hp d135 printer? -

I m getting frustrated. Best answer will give a direct page to a credible download. Thank You!

Here s the link directly: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw… But i ll just tell you how to do it incase that link doesn t work. Go to http://hp.com. Click on Printers on the left. At the top there will be tabs. Click on Support and Drivers. Click on the first option that says quot;Download drivers and software (and firmware).quot; Type in the model of your printer. Select your operating system. There they are!

From the HP website under support!

How can I print a large picture by combining 8 1/2 X 11 sheets from an inkjet printer? Any software for this? -

I want to be able to take an image and blow it up to a larger size, but don t want to pay for poster enlargements, is there software that will cut up the image into a grid of printer-sized paper that I can assemble into the larger image?

Horrible name but good product... Rastebator http://www.download.com/Rasterbator/3000… From their site you can do it online... http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/

I am wanting to printer in one room and my Pc in another room what is the best solution? -

I have a Hp 1710n and a Kodak 5100 that is Bluetooth ready I am only using the 1 computer what is the easiest and least expensive way to print wireless ?

You can go to best buy and buy a wireless printer

You could get a Bluetooth USB dongle to plug into your PC, sometimes they are a pain though and can slow a system down.

Since you have an HP printer with an quot;nquot; in the model name, then that printer can be connected to a network. The easiest and cheapest way to do this is to connect your printer to a wireless router with an ethernet (CAT5 or CAT6) cable. If your printer has wireless capabilities on its own, then you can connect the printer wirelessly to your router, and then to your PC. Once you ve connected the printer to the network, you ll need to install the printer s drivers to your PC so your printer can communicate with it.

Purchase a wifi printer or if you want to use the printer you already have, purchase a wireless print server.

get a linksys print server for about 40

You can get a Bluetooth card or USB dongle for your PC if the distance is below 10 meters and not much stuff in the middle. Try with your phone, is it has Bluetooth, before buying the card. It s not expensive but it s worthless if you can t reach your printer. Another way is to buy a wireless network adapter for your printer. Surely more expensive but safer and more reliable.

If I have just one copy of a letter of recommendation, is it okay to make photocopies? -

Someone wrote me a letter of recommendation and they addressed it to the specific place I was applying, while in the letter writing the name of the company I m wanting to work for. Is it okay to write the same thing word for word, leaving out the name so I can use it to apply for different companies? And just copy the signature w/ a photocopy machine?

If I were interviewing someone who gave me a letter with a photocopied signature, I d be very wary. Why don t you ask this person to write you a general letter not addressed to anyone specific?

How do I change the settings in print to print only one page? -

I have fax and Letterhead pages set up, when I print them, wanting only thefirst page it prints out three everytime, I need to change this instead of having to manually change it everytime I print them out.

GO TO THE TOOLBAR AND CLICK ON THE PRINTER,CLICK PRINT PREVIEW AND THEN THE LEFT TOP SIDE OF PAGE CLICK THE PRINTER PICTURE. UNDER THE GENERAL TAB YOU WILL CHOOSE THE PAGE RANGE AND THEN CHOOSE THE CURRENT PAGE AND UNDER THAT TYPE 1 IN THE BOX. CLICK APPLY AND THEN OK. YOU ALSO MUST HAVE YOUR FILE AND PRINTING SHARING CHECKED FOR MICROSOFT NETWORK WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE PROPERTIES MENU IN YOUR LAN SETTINGS. SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS, I DIDN T REALIZE IT WAS ON. GOOD LUCK.

That s odd. It should automatically stay the way you last set it. Only thing I can think of is try restarting both your computer and printer. (Unless it s always done that, in which case, no idea)

Are you sure you haven t got two pages worth of spaces? Next time you type using the template, look down to see if you have any more pages showing, or check print preview. If you don t have the icon up you can get it from the bar drop down - or you can click print preview underneath print on the File dropdown. If you ve got 3 pages, go back, put your cursor at the end of your writing and keep delete depressed.

when you get to the print options click on pages and put in pages 1-1 or 1-3 or whatever you range you wish to print.

printer set up, usually on the keypad on the printer.

Is it just me or does Epson ink go up every time I go into staples? -

Is it just me or does Epson ink go up by a £1 every time I go to replace it at Staples. I bought an Epson printer hoping that i could put the cheap ink in however it appears that they have upgraded their software and my Epson will not accept the cheap cartridges and it feels like the cost of replacement cartridges goes up every time I visit the only local shop(Staples) that sells them. Does anyone know of a 3 in 1 printer that does not have such expensive cartridges?

Why not buy on line it is much cheaper, shop around. I have an epson printer and used to buy mine at Jessops, they were charging £10 more than I could get them on line.

Printing companies make their money on the ink rather than the hardware, as you can only use ink of their brand. Consider yourself lucky, as when I ordered my Dell laptop they sent me a free printer. Great right? Well now I have to keep buying the expensively priced cartridges directly from Dell, (because they don t sell in the shops). I think its probably better to buy a cheap and unknown brand printer, just because the price of ink won t be astronomically high!

In March 2007 Epson won a court victory which allowed them to make printers which refuse to recognize compatibles. Since then they keep raising the price of their cartridges. A few companies have figured out a way to make their cartridges work with Epson, but you have to be careful because there are still people selling the old cartridges which won t work. I found a place in the States where I get Epson compatible cartridges for under $3 each. They even hold 50% more ink. (Http://ccs-digital.com) There are probably similar places on your side of the pond.

That s how printer manufacturers make their money. They sell you the printer below cost and then they overcharge on the ink. Obviously it is in their best interest to prevent you from buying cheaper ink from alternative manufacturers. Personally I own a Canon 4 in 1 printer with separate cartridges for each color. It allows me to keep my costs down although I m not a heavy printer. :)

You can buy a kit in Tescos to refill your old cartridges. Only cost about a tenner I think and will refill up to 6 times. Not that hard to use, but involves making a small hole in the top of the cartridge. Do tend to get ink on your fingers.

Printer ink is way over priced, I got mine on Ebay, I saved over half the price on there. Maybe it will be cheaper for you too.

They have a new Kodak printer that uses much less ink and the ink itself is cheaper (at least Kodak says so...)

So now you know why everybody is going to CVS to get ink as well as walgreens

i have espon too.... it sucks

How can i recover a deleted document from microsoft word after i closed out of it? -

after writting a document in microsoft word i deleted it then closed out from it. yea, im a dummy.... is there a way to go, say into the recycle bin and recover it? or is there a way to make my printer re-print that document being that i did print it, then i deleted it from word and closed out of word. No i dont have the document i printed. i mailed it off... how can i retrive it or make my printer print the last item it had printed. no, it was not saved in the mouse. thank you.

If you double click on your recycle bin and you see your document listed then right click it and click quot;Restorequot; dz

u said u mailed it right? so go to ur mail id, click the sent items and choose the document u mailed, copy it and paste it in the word document again and give it a print,,,thats it,,,hope i gave u the right answer..

this works for me sometimes but i dont know if it will work everytime but: close down your computer incorrectly like just press the button until he goes off then turn it back on the right way. when i do that word just pops up with the last thing i was doing. good luck with that.

turn the computer off and on... mabye doc. recovery will save it... otherwise, check in the recycle bin or document history in the bin... find the doc s properties and click restore

How does a out of date cartidge work? -

I have some HPs but I dont want to put them in the printer if there out of date as then it may mess the printer up - or will it?

It will be ok if they have been stored well - not too hot. the print quality may be poorer, you may not even notice. Your printer will be fine, as the whole head is changed with a new cartridge. Any problems will be removed when you change the ink cartridge

If you put them in, they probably wont work. A embedded chip on the cartridge lets the computer know it has expired. Don t buy HP if you can help it. I ve heard of ways around it but have not been successful myself. 1 is to remove battery in printer. Another is to modify the driver files. Good luck. --Simon enagt.com studentsolution.net

Clean the heads with a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab and they should work like a charm. The only reason they have dates is because the ink sort of turns into a gum over time, which will stop it from flowing when it needs to. Alcohol will dissolve that gum.

HP cartridges have the print head built in. If the ink in them is dried up they simply will not print. A new set will then still work as they have their own print head.

If they have not dried up they should be ok.

Go control panel admin tools/disk mgmt and rename the drives to what you want you may have to name one some other until you get F freed up. Then put what you want on them. You can change all but C drive

Sory some of my spelling wasn t the greatest Report Abuse

go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management. Click on disk management and select the drive you want. right click on the drive and change the drive letters and path. Good luck

Disk Management! Under control panel or right click my computer and click manage. You can then change drive letters for most any drive! Good luck!

I m glad someone was able to answer this question for you. I know nothing about computers. My uncle is the computer expert, he has his own shop and there is nothing he doesn t know about computers. My computer messed up one time and I didn t know how to fix it so I called him. He told me step by step what to do, what each screen would say and what I was supposed to check on the screen. I thought he was using his computer as he was telling me what mine would say. I told him it was a good thing he had a computer handy to tell me what the places he took me to would say and to my surprise he said yes, I have a computer but no electricity. We had a bad storm 3 days earlier and his electriic had not been restored yet. He did it all from memory. Very impressive.

How can I make a HP laserjet 5 print faster? -

Printer shows quot;processing jobquot; and waits while it begins to print several pages. Then it begins to print, then stop for several seconds before it begins again. It continues this through out the printing process. I can only print 50 pages at a time in order not to tie up the printer. It keeps doing it and gets worse on certian documents. I heard maybe adding memory to printer will speed it up, or is it the computer?

Yes, adding memory to your printer will definitely help speed things up, but you will still be somewhat limited by the speed of the interface and the complexity of the print job (especially if you are doing Postscript, if it is installed on your printer), downloading of fonts, etc. The HP LaserJet 5 printer has four SIMM(Single In-line MemoryModule) slots. Use the SIMM slots to install additional printer memory and printer languages (such as the Adobe PostScript language). For the HP LaserJet 5 printer, you can add up to 64 MBytes of memory (4MBytes are standard). Part Number Size (MB) C3130A -------- 1 C3131A -------- 2 C3132A -------- 4 C3133A -------- 8 C3134A -------- 16 Chances are you can find some old standard SIMMs that would be compatible. Best of luck.

You are right about adding memory to the printer that is what is the cause of your problem, lack of it. I am not sure it the LJ5 can have extra memory but if I remember right it is HP memory that is needed. I have tried other memory in HP printers and it did not see it or work.

Why is it better to have as large a buffer as possible in a printer? -

What is happen then ? How it eill store data ? How many storage capacity it may has ?

basically, it frees up ur pc to perform other tasks instead of having to wait for the printer to finish printing one page before sending the next page to the printer. a larger buffer means that the printer can store more documents. imo, its only impt in network printers where u have lots of users sending data to the printer at one go. standalone printers need not have a large buffer unless u print lots of hi-res images

buffer is a temp storage, which takes the files from YOur PC and save it on it, to wait for the printer. in other words, your PC is much faster than the printer, thus connection at same speed is impossible, thus we use the buffer which saves sent from PC to the printer, and waits tell your printer is ready for taking this data then send it to it slowly. the larger buffer means that you don t have to save all this data in your PC memory, and slow your PC performance, to have a buffer of 64MB is the best

How can I get my printer working again? -

I have a Lexmark printer and I got the cartridges refilled. The people in the shop said the printer would tell me there was no ink but it would still work and it has so far. I have just tried printing and its now telling me the cartridge is unsupported. It wont let me work around this, so I cant print. can anyone help me please?

The shop lied to you. A lot of printer cartridges now have a chip in them and talk to the printer to tell it if they are genuine and how much ink they have used. Plus if you use refilled ones it usually invalidates the warranty on your printer.

Always use ORIGINAL cartridges. Refills simply F--k up ypur printer. Printers are very sensative, and delicate. pay the little extra, and get original cartridges.!!!

same thing happened to me (a refill) I will not do that again I would rather pay the extra good luck

buy genuine parts you cant go wrong

How can I change the default type size for my printer? -

I read a newspaper article online yesterday and clicked on quot;printquot; to print it out. The type came out huge, like maybe size 16. I didn t think much about it, figured it was just the way that newspaper sent things. Later I renewed my McAfee subscription and printed out the receipt and it too came out in large print. Prior to yesterday everything I printed came out fine but it seems that somehow the default for my type size has changed. Any suggestions?

Do Print Preview before you print. Without knowing what browser you re using I can t offer any clues. Assuming Internet Explorer, try selecting a smaller font under View.

Before you print anything, always go to print preview and make all your print size changes there.

Copy and paste the web text into Word and change the size to whatever you want.
