How do i connect an older printer to my laptop? -

i have a hp printer that is a few years old and it has a roundish plug that my laptop doest have. is it possible to still use this printer with my laptop? perhaps a usb adapeter or something?

Is it long and have a lot of pins holes? if it does its either a parallel port or possibly a SCSI printer. You will have to look as it should be marked. If its a parallel it should be easy to find someone with a port and they could use it. And no you cannot change a serial USB to parallel, sorry.

is the roundish plug that you talking about round on top and has three sides that are straight? if so, then all you need is a usb printer cable - one end will have a plug that will fit in the printer and the other end will into a usb port. They are about $10 to $15 dollars at any Staples, OfficeMax, Best Buy, or Wal-Mart.

If you supply us with the model of the printer it may help

To set up a wireless printer do you need a specific printer? -

I have 3 computers at home, 2 of which are wireless, The printer I have is a Canon MP160, The printer doesn t say that it is wireless, What do I need to do to be able to have the 2 wireless computers to print on it other than through a wired connection?

The printer does not have to be wireless to be usable. You can print on a printer attached to any another computer on your Local Network. When both machines are XP machines, all you have to do is set the printer to Sharing in the Printers and Faxes dialog box on its host machine and it should become available (perhaps not immediately) on the network. When the printer is on an XP machine and a Vista machine wants to use it (possibly the same for two Vista machines -- I haven t tried it): 1.On the XP machine, set the printer to Sharing in the Printers and Faxes dialog box. 2.On the Vista machine, get to the Add A Printer dialog. 3.Click Add a local Printer. (Yes, I know it s on the network, but trust me.) 4.Click the Create a new port radio button. Leave the type of port set to Local Port. 5.Click the Next button. 6.In the Port Name text box, enter the printer s name, complete with the other machine s name (e.g. \\Bob s Machine\Bob s Printer). 7.Click OK. Hope that helps.

Can I print overhead transperancies in a regular printer? -

Can I do that without harming my printer? Do I need a special ink or something?

Actually, you don t need a special ink, just a special transperancy. They have an almost murky look to them, but that s so the ink can blead into the plastic, otherwise they look fine when on an overhead. They re not real cheap, but you can find them in most office supply stores. (I ve even seen them in Wal*mart). A normal transperancy in an inkjet printer will not harm your printer, but the ink may smear and get on the rollers which would make a mess for you later on.

How do I fix a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 printer error code # 92? -

Whenever I go to print on 13 x 19 in any Adobe program, I get a weird error message saying that the printer cannot detect the paper size. Any other size works just fine. I have all of the guides properly lined up and am doing everything right. I even set the printer settings to not auto detect paper width. Help please!

Is it only in Adobe that you are having this problem? Check out this link: Put in 13 x 19 in the search (sorry it won t do this auto) http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro… Uste the same link to the manual (click on the drivers and download tab). There seems to be a quot;fit to sizequot; option that might work:

Can photo printers be used as everyday printers? -

I am looking at a canon pixma iP4600 photo printer. I am just wondering if it only prints photos or if it can print random stuff off the internet, or text as well.

Yes, indeedy. This is a photo and document printer. It boasts of printing the highest quality images and text documents. Here are all your specifications for the printer: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-2909B008AA… One thing I always look at first in any printer is the cartridge cost. This printer uses individual cartridges, which is good. It means you only replace the colour that runs out, not all cartridges at once as you have to do with some printers. With modern printers, you also need to check the price of the cartridges. Some printers now don t allow you to use cheaper compatible cartridges, which means you would have to pay full price for them. The type of cartridge for this particular printer is listed on the above link. Just pull up a search on compatible cartridges and see if there are any available for this model of printer. I use the ink2u website, but you may want to have a trawl of the net for other sites. All the best.

Yes, you can use your photo printer as a everyday printer. But be warned! You ll need to lower the print quality or you ll end up using a lot of ink. Photo printers do multiple passes for fine detail, and this will suck the ink out of the cartridges (and the money out of your wallet).

only the small photo-only printers can t do everything http://www.trustedreviews.com/printers/r…

As long as the printer has a USB or Parallel connection you can use it as a daily printer.

yes you can print anything any way you want any time

Certainly! the ink is often more expensive though, as are the printers themselves.

maybe if you want you text to show up on a small piece of photo paper

i think you can. it would just be more expensive. (because of the high quality ink.)

Yes, mine does.

How can I get my magenta ink flowing in my printer? -

I have a Brother MFC-5440CN printer and my magenta is not flowing at all. I called service, but I think they won t help me if I got my cartridges refilled at the mall as opposed to buying new cartridges. I ve tried the automated cleaning several times and done test prints. I ve also taken the cartridge out and put it back in. Any ideas? Thanks.

quot;I got my cartridges refilled at the mall as opposed to buying new cartridges.quot; =)

for your printer, it is using the ink tanks (LC 47 series cartridges) which is to say, the printhead is fix on the printer, not on the cartridge. You would have to figure out a way to either, gain access or to remove the printhead to do a cleaning on it manually. Try getting Windex, ( a glass cleaning solution available in supermarkets) and drip a few drops on the printhead itself, do a few automated cleaning cycle (about 5 times or more) if it doesn t clear, drop a few more drops and let it sit overnight. It usually works in my cases for my customers. in most cases like this, the service tech from brother or which ever oem would usually tell you that your printhead would need to be changed and charge you for it, regardless of whether you ve refilled your cartridges. Take note of who you refilled your cartridges with, if the refilled ink has different properties from what the printer require (eg. universal ink), it will result in clogs over a period of time. Check out my website at www.inkrefillservice.com or email me at enquiries@inkrefillservice.com if you need further assistant. We would be glad to be of service to you.

refilled cartridges don t always work well, it might be that the cartridge is clogged. try wiping the ink opening with a q-tip, as well as the space in your printer through which the ink flows

How can I make my computer wirelessly print? -

I have a desktop with XP, and the printer is an HP Photosmart C3180 All-In-One

You will have to get a router, and your printer will have to have a network card installed. The printer will probably cost a little bit of cash, but that is one way. You can also attach an old PC to it, and share the printer from it.

If you want to print wirelessly you will need a wireless print server. D-Link makes a good one that can handle up to 4 printers while Linksys has one that will only handle 1 printer. I just bought the D-Link model yesterday as a matter of fact. Best $70 I ever spent. I now have both my inkjet printer/scanner and my laser printer hooked up and working wirelessly. The best part is, I can even use the scan feature of my inkjet printer via wireless as well. No need for fancy parts/cards in expensive printers. Remember, a standard router will not do it unless it has a print server built in. You will need a wireless print server/router.

What laser printer would you recommend for me? -

I am a college student and my school is allowing me to purchase a printer that they will then refund me for. So cost is not an issue, just something around $300 would be good. Any way, I want this to last me for at least 9 years. I am open to anything...please provide me with links please.

Scanners and wireless won t last nine years--three or four at most. You must drop those conditions and get an HP laserjet. There is a $100 add on for wireless, but there is no guarantee that when wireless improves your printer will be supported. At a minimum drop one of wireless and scanner.

You are asking for a lot for only $300. Most machines last between 4 - 6 years. Printers don t last like they use to. A printer that has multiple functions and is a laser model is going to cost you well over your spending limit. You might be able to find an ink jet at that price range. The ink jets don t last long unless you get a high end model and they start around $450 or so. The best printers are xerox printers hands down for laser printer. They have good prices at http://www.nynjtechnology.com. They sell all new models of HP, Xerox and many more. Call their phone number and they ll help you pick one.

Is there anyway to connect a non-wireless USB printer to two computers? -

The problem is that we have two computers at work and we print off of both of them... So, when we need to print something from the computer that the printer isnt connected to, we have to unplug it and plug it into the other one and back and forth... I was wondering if there was some kind of splitter or something that I could buy so that we could print from both at the same time without disconnecting and reconnecting the printer constantly.

Good question. What about http://www.mycuredcomputer.com lt;----has anyone tried them?

Are the 2 computers networked? If so, you can have the printer on one computer and share it. You can then install the share on the second computer. If they are not networked, then you are out of luck.

There are wireless printer kits which will work with almost any printer. Just google quot;wireless printer kitquot;

put the printer on a local network with a IPS address, then both computers should be able to connect to printer

Do they make transparency paper for ink jet printers? -

I saw some for laser jet printers but do they make it for ink jet printers? Thanks.

I m afraid not. Ink would just run off transparency paper. The reason it works with laser printers is because the ink is actually a powder instead of a liquid. It s almost moulded onto the paper/transparency (hence why the paper is warm out of a laser printer) meaning it doesn t slide off.

Yes. I use some in my classroom at school. 3M is the brand of the product I use I believe. I ordered it from Demco, but I m sure you could get it other places as well. The surface of an ink jet transparency is a bit rough or textured so that the ink will stick. One think to keep in mind when ordering is that different brands of printers may require different types of transparencies. Mine, for instance, requires the transparency to have a white strip on the leading edge so the printer can detect it. Check the list of compatible brands of printers on the transparency specs. before purchasing. Good luck.
