To set up a wireless printer do you need a specific printer? -

I have 3 computers at home, 2 of which are wireless, The printer I have is a Canon MP160, The printer doesn t say that it is wireless, What do I need to do to be able to have the 2 wireless computers to print on it other than through a wired connection?

The printer does not have to be wireless to be usable. You can print on a printer attached to any another computer on your Local Network. When both machines are XP machines, all you have to do is set the printer to Sharing in the Printers and Faxes dialog box on its host machine and it should become available (perhaps not immediately) on the network. When the printer is on an XP machine and a Vista machine wants to use it (possibly the same for two Vista machines -- I haven t tried it): 1.On the XP machine, set the printer to Sharing in the Printers and Faxes dialog box. 2.On the Vista machine, get to the Add A Printer dialog. 3.Click Add a local Printer. (Yes, I know it s on the network, but trust me.) 4.Click the Create a new port radio button. Leave the type of port set to Local Port. 5.Click the Next button. 6.In the Port Name text box, enter the printer s name, complete with the other machine s name (e.g. \\Bob s Machine\Bob s Printer). 7.Click OK. Hope that helps.
