Is there a way to hook up wirelss laptop to your printer? -

I have a Sony Vaio, I am using router to connect to internet. Router is also hooked up to my desktop computer that has its printer connected to it. Is there a way I could send my documents to print from laptop to the printer somehow?

To access your printer over the net you need to turn on Print Sharing on the computer that has the printer plugged in. To share your printer Open Printers and Faxes. Right-click the printer you want to share, and then click Sharing. The options you see on the Sharing tab differ depending on whether sharing is enabled on your computer. For instructions on what to do next, click the option that describes what you see on the Sharing tab. I see text stating that printer sharing must be turned on You need to enable printer sharing by running the Network Setup Wizard. Start it by clicking the link on the Sharing tab, and then follow the instructions. Once sharing is enabled, begin this procedure again. I see options for sharing or not sharing the printer On the Sharing tab, click Share this printer, and then, in the Share name box, type a name for the shared printer. If you share the printer with users on different hardware or different operating systems, click Additional Drivers. Click the environment and operating system for the other computers, and then click OK to install the additional drivers. Drivers for users running other versions of Windows (Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0) are located on the Support CD. Printer drivers for Windows NT 3.1 and Windows NT 3.5 are not included. Click OK, or, if you have installed additional drivers, click Close. If you have followed the steps listed above and still cannot share this printer, open Windows Firewall. (To open Windows Firewall, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Windows Firewall.) Then, on the Exceptions tab, select the File and Printer Sharing check box.

plug the printer cord usually a usb cable to your laptop.

Yes, share the printer over the network.

just plug it in

Your router has to be wireless or your printer server. Otherwise you must use two wireless usb adapters. One for each computer with one computer on that is connected directly to the printer. You have to buy two adapters for ad-hoc setup. Use add printers in the control panel the answer above has much info use it. Go to Help and Support Startgt;Help and Support Before you begin, make sure you know the name of the printer that you want to add. Sometimes the name is displayed on the printer itself. If the name is not on the printer, contact the printer owner or your network administrator to find out the printer s name before following the steps below. Click to open Printers. Click Add a printer. In the Add Printer Wizard, select Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer. In the list of available printers, select the one you want to use, and then click Next. If prompted, install the printer driver on your computer. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Complete the additional steps in the wizard, and then click Finish. Tips Available printers can include all printers on a network, such as Bluetooth and wireless printers or printers that are plugged into another computer and shared on the network. Make sure that you have permission to use these printers before adding them to the computer. For more information, see What are printer permissions? It s a good idea to print a test page to check if the printer is working correctly. For more information, see Print a test page. To remove a printer Note You can t remove a printer if you have items in the print queue. If items are waiting to print when you try to remove a printer, Windows will wait until printing is complete, and then remove the printer. If you have permission to manage documents on the printer, you can also cancel all print jobs and then try to remove the printer again. For more information, see Cancel printing and What are printer permissions? Click to open Printers. Right-click the printer that you want to remove, and then click Delete. If you can t delete the printer, right-click it again, click Run as administrator, and then click Delete. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
