Advice from anyone who owns or knows about laser jets? -

I need to purchase a laser jet printer to print out notes for school. I will be printing quite a bit. I need just black and white, nothing fancy, and I need something inexpensive. Any recommendations? I would greatly appreciate it.

Do not go HP, their cartridges are tiny and will quickly break the bank of a university student. I would recommend something small and reliable like a samsung ML 2010. You can pick one up for about $70 on the high end, the cartridges is rated for 3500 pages (you will get a starter cartridge with the unit good for 500 pages). The cartridge can easily be found in a re-manufactured or compatible cartridge and should only cost no more than $70 for you 3500 pages. Compare that to the common HP P1505 right now. Unit $100 with a starter cartridge good for 200 pages. A replacement tcartridgegwill run you about $60 and only print 1500 pages. I think it is worth the extra $10 for 2000 pages. If you do not need colour don t go colour, that CLP mentioned takes 4 cartirdges and a drum. Each cartirdge cost about $40 and up and will only print 1000 pages. You will be changing them often, as regardless of what you printing colour toner will be used. Keep it simple, if all you need in monochrome, go monochrome. They are cheaper to run, much faster and there are fewer parts to repalce. A Monochrome laser printer is normally much smaller as well, in a cramped dorm room, ever inch of desk space counts. Since you can get a great color laser for $80, I say go for it. Lasers have sharper text and are generally faster than inkjets. While toner cartridges are more expensive than ink, they print more pages, so the cost per page is lower. You can get a good color laser today for $80! Samsung CLP-300 at http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/p… I have this printer and it s really nice. Toner cartridges are more expensive then inkjet cartridges ($70 for a set of 4 at http://ccs-digital.com/ink.asp ) but they last for about 2,000 pages. It does a nice job on photos, but not quiote as good as an inkjet.

HP is a good brand
