What type of printing is better for the pro artist? -

Is it better to get professional printing done by a printing press company or are the HP DesignJets adequate for professional prints to sell? I m mainly worried about color fade and home printing inconsistencies that the buyer didn t intend to acquire on the DesignJets.

Depends entirely on what sort of volumes you need to print. For one of prints, a design jet should be adequate, especially if you invest in a colour calibration tool that lets you scan an colour sample chart, scan it into a PC and calibrate the monitor, then print it and use it to create an ICC profile for the printer to make sure the entire system prints accurate colours. If you plan to print hundreds, then a pro level laser printer such as the Konica Minolts BizHub Pro 6500 or 65HC might be worth looking at, these are BIG machine capable or runs of thousands of copies and can be easily colour calibrated. The 6500 uses standard CMYK technology, the 65HC uses quot;High Chromaquot; toners that give better, bolder colours.

How many times can you NORMALLY refill Dell ink cartridges before they start failing? -

Dell does not make printers. What you are looking at is the same factory type of Lexmark or HP printer carts, with the gold foil on the bottom, which is the actual print head. I like these the best, as, if you are careful ( CAREFUL ) not to press, deform, or mechanically abrade the gold or chrome print hole surface itself, you can use for YEARS, -- I have one that is 10 years old. There are a few situations though, that might give you problems such as a few types of BLACK ink that are incompatible with many standard refills, and if you put in black ink, the cart immediately quits. If you soak the cart in water about 3/4 the height of the cart overnight, you can print a page or 2, and then it quits again. I have not heard any explanation for this behaviour, but a typical cart is the dark green capped black cart in a LEXMARK printer 5XX or 6XX printer with the 16/17 26/27 carts. The color, on the other hand, can be refilled for years. The best carts just have various compositions of ordinary FOAM in them, sometimes with a layer of fiber on the top or bottom, but the foam is the holding mechanism. NEVER drill an existing vent hole on a cart if it contains micro-baffles that allow a tiny amount of air in, without allowing dry air outside to dry out the foam. HP uses a dual bladder air charged black, on a few models, and a few other ones do as well. These require more time and care in loading and taping. If you purchase an ink refill kit, there is usually online instructions and/or a manual that explains where to drill holes and tape etc. They may even explain about the bladders or foam, although they usually do not. I have learned where to drill holes quot; my quot; way, which does not always agree with the typical instructions, and even different ink refill instructions have different methods. If you are serious about refilling, COSCO has an awesome refill kit with 3 huge bottles of black, 3 huge bottles of the 3 colors, and 2 bottles of the photo ink, the drills, beads, tape, manual etc. for $20. I would go to many kitchen stores or such in the malls and look for digital scales - they are everywhere, about $25 and will tell you how much the full or empty carts weigh, and you can tell EXACTLY how much ink is in all the carts, regardless of the estimators. Try not to push in or abrade the actual print surface, although it can be wiped gently with a damp soft cloth in the direction of the print movement. I put old carts that are sitting too long unused and drying out , in a glass of water 3/4 the way to the top overnight. In filling, each cart for each type is slightly different, but for foam carts, I drill a hole for each color about 3/4 the way up the side in an area that I put a piece of black electrical tape over when I am done. I try to avoid altering the micro-air ducting that is used by the manufacturer. After soaking, and filling to the 3/4 mark, I sit the cart on 2 or 3 folded kleenex gently in a glass for a few minutes and then check to see if the print surface is still dripping - if it wipes clean, then you are ready to do a couple of test prints. When refilling, it is probably best to fill ALL the colors, and keep them this way. Letting the print head go to completely empty IS REALLY BAD - because the print head is 1/2 to 3/4 away from the foam, separated by a microfilter and a long tube. If this tube EVER gets empty, the fast drying ink dries inside the tube, and on TOP of the print holes, and you will never fully regain the use of the cart after that. (( I do, by tying a string to a filled cart and spinning it at about 10 G to force air bubbles out of the tube, and by melting holes into the tube and using hypodermic needles to rinse with water, and them fill with new ink, and then epoxy the holes shut - most people would be unable to do these proceedures, and as far as I know, I am the only one who has done so. But then, I have over 200 printers, so that I have to be creative... )) Keeping the print heads used on a daily basis ( I recommend a print of all 4 colors at least every three days ) and NEVER letting the heads dry out, would enable you to use the carts for years... Lets face it, you can buy a brand new printer WITH carts for less than the carts, do that if try to use the old ones, you have nothing to lose,- if you screw up, well, you buy a new one - if you drill it properly, then you just saved the price of either a cart , or a new printer. I have seen, in an industrial park, a pile of brand new identical printers, in the boxes, with all the software disks and packaging, untouched, except for the box top opened and the ink carts removed ie, the entire box, software, printer, packaging, and even free bonus CD s and sample paper, was less than the ink carts, so they just bough a pile of new printers, and threw them all out-- for the ink. Go figure. Hope this helps. Dell changes options and marketing constantly, so I am GUESSING what printer you probably have. If you post the exact carts and description of them and the printer, I could help better. Also, I note from two of the other answers provided since I posted this, that people are stating that you can ruin your printer and void your warranty and damage things by using quot; NON DELL quot; ink.. Please.... give it a break. I have never, in a quarter of a century heard of an ink refill damaging a foam cartridge type of printer - people can damage a printer and do really strange things, but if the ink, which everyone states is poorer quality, is not giving you the TRUE, DELL, look, then just get another DELL cartridge. Your printer has no idea what ink is hitting the paper that you are printing on! Someone mentioned that LEXMARK has a bad reputation of poor ink cartridges, which is debateable - which make model and year and refill cart is the person talking about? Where are the statistics? Out of the hundreds of printers I work with, I can list the models from HP, Canon, Epson, etc. that had horrible problems, and for that matter, I can list horrible problems with almost any quot; Brand namequot; computer component over the years. With new techniques and products and modifications being sold daily, it would be difficult to imagine that every single thing sold by one specific company was perfect, all the time - they arent, and people do get stuck with lemons occasionally - from ALL manufacturers.. All you can do is hope for the best. But the SALES and MARKETING and LEGAL bs of doom and gloom in using a NON DELL ink, is actually funny! I cant help but wonder how many HUNDREDS of printers these people have actually used in their lifetime.... Another addendum, as people provide other answers.... Reading over the answers is quite funny since the logic they present is quot; DONT use refills, since it will destroy the machine and warranty , AND, throw out the printer anyway, since it not a good one in the first place ! quot; So ... I ask, why worry about a warranty if you are going to throw out the printer and buy a quot; goodquot; one ? Also, below an ANSWER states that you CAN refill, but never use a generic kit... but they don t state what you CAN use if you arent using a generic kit? And they highlight the word quot; NEVER quot;. As though HP or DELL put out name-brand specific refill kits !!! Unheard of -- they give away printers at cost just to make money on the carts, so providing quot; NAME BRAND quot; refills would destroy their greedy marketing plans... You can check my ANSWERS for information on other printers, ink and refills as well. good luck robin

When it fails you will know it!

id say 2-3 times refilling it then you need to buy a new cartridge

IN order to get one refill the cartridge has to be printing well in the first place. How many refills you will actually get out of a cartridge depends highly upon usage, maintenance and of course just dumb luck. To get the most out of the cartridge run regular print head cleanings and refill only when the cartridge is low and still printing well. If you keep going that way you may get many refills out of it before the electronic go or the print head begins to fail. The most important thing to maintenance. Keep up with print head cleaning. One every two-three weeks and watch your print quality. Never use a universal kit. NEVER. and you should have reasonably good luck

Really, it s not advisable to refill ink cartridges at all. The ink is always a poorer quality, it s 33 times more likely to fail, and may even mess up your printer. Since you have a Dell printer (made by Lexmark who are known for poor cartridge/ink reliabilty) your chances of actually losing money through ruined cartridges/ink and maybe even the printer, you may want to reconsider ink refills. However, if you must, generally the limit is three refills before you need to purchase new cartridges. Dell printers are really inconvenient. People generally toss theirs in the trash, and buy a printer whose ink can be found in retail stores. I prefer HP myself.

It s really not worth your while to refill Dell cartridges. Using a refilled cartridge in your Dell printer means the warranty on your printer isn t valid anymore. (Although if your warranty s up, it really doesn t matter.) Yes, you can only get Dell cartridges direct from them, but that also means you don t pay a markup because you re buying them from a store - and the cartridge has a warranty too. If it fails for some reason other than your running out of ink, they ll replace it (within reason).

about five times, but it also depend on the way you refill it and the type of ink.

How often should I clean my print cartridges? -

Will overcleaning my print cartridges cause them to print even worse? How often can I clean my print cartridges? A lot of the time my printer only prints half of the lines. Is this because I don t clean it enough?

No, overcleaning the cartridges will not make them print worse or spoilt them. However, cleaning them when you do not need to causes you to waste ink. Most printers use a little ink from the cartridges to clean the printheads, so the more you clean, the more ink is wasted in the cleaning instead of being used for printing. You should, however, clean the cartridges when you see print defects, eg. streaks, lines missing, etc. What I mean by cleaning is using the printer toolbox in your computer to clean and not a physical cleaning. You should not take out the cartridges and wipe them, etc because you can damage the cartridges then. After each clean, your print defects should disappear or the printouts should become better. If not, then it could just be that the cartridges are empty and you need to buy new ones. That would also result in your printer not printing properly.

The computer normally has software that tells you whether or not the catridges are clean or dirty. I don t clean them - my dad does (it is VERY messy)!! Maybe you should change your cartridge if your printer isn t printing properly - I m not sure. Give it a knock. Thats what we did when it was printing a little funny and it worked. Sometimes the cartridge isn t exactly in place. It may be becauyse they re dirty - I don t know.

About every two years.

How do i connect my printer on my computer? -

I do not know how to connect my new printer to work on my computer.

Connect the printer cable from your PC to your printer. Install the software that came with the printer. Plug the printer into a power source. Add Paper. It should work.

Directions usually come in the box including quick setupquot; ones. In general if it is a newer computer, like with Windows XP, all you have to do is plug it in and the operating system will do all the connecting software.

you ll need a USB cable to connect it to a USB port on ya puter if your printer didnt come with the cable .But before that , use the installation CD before plugging it then reboot .

Connect the cable in the back of the printer then connect it into the back of the computer turn on the computer the computer will install driver for it if the computer did not install driver then install driver from the disk came with the printer.

There must be a cable that came with the printer....plug one end into the printer and the other in the computer. Power up the printer, and for most models, the computer will find and install the necessary drivers itself and you re ready to go. Otherwise, you ll need to install the drivers from the CD that came with the printer and then you can use it.

I assume your printer came with a manual - you should read it. Otherwise generally speaking - you plug it in, you plug the cable from the printer to your PC (most likely into the USB port), switch it on, and see if Windows quot;picks it upquot; and follow the instructions on the screen - it should either install the drivers itself or promp you to install them. And then you should have at least a CD ROM that came with yor printer where you re most likely to find the above mentioned drivers ;)

Easy !! 1) Use the USB cable to connect the printer to the back of your cpu unit that is for the printer. 2) Take your disk that came with the computer and insert it into the disk opening (NOT THE DVD) in the cpu unit.. The disk that I am talking about is the disk that concerns the installation of your new printer. Insert it and it will or should run automatically after 2-5 seconds.. let it run thru and answer all the questions that it asks for 3) AS a precautionary measure, I always go (after wards) to the start, then control panel.. then printer and hardware to add the new printer..OR.. IF YOU SEE that YOUR MODEL PRINTER is NOW on the panel screen when you bring it up.. then click out and forget this step.. you have just installed your new printer.

the best thing i can suggest is get out the instruction manuels and read them if you get into trouble email the company that makes your computer and printer .

Plug the printer into the proper port on the back of the computer and insert the installation CD that came with your printer. If you don,t have the installation CD most windows computers will recognize your printer with some input from you and help you set it up.

do you have the manual refer it it would get it easy or else you have to get the connector and connect the printer to the usb and install the drivers

Most printers today use a quot;USBquot; type of wire to connect to your computer. The first thing that they may want you to do is load some software into your computer with the Cd that came with it. The data your loading into your computer are known as the quot;Print Driversquot;. Then you will more than likely have to buy a proper quot;USBquot; wire for the printer and then attach the printer to the computer. Then you may have to calibrate the heads on the printer and print a test page or 2. Just make sure that all the packing materials have been removed from shipping and that the print heads are not locked into place or fastened down by something before you plug the printer in.

first you use the USB cable and connect it to your USB pod and then your computer will ask you wether you want to istall the printer or nor and then you follw the instructions then start using..well the printer using thing is actually depends on your computer and printer wether you re using the new or the older version...good luck

most printers don t come with the cable necessary. you ll probably need a standard printer usb cable. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-2-0-Device-…

there is a cable that goes from your printer to your computer. most computers will have a little printer icon next to the slot in the back where the cable should go. hook those up. then there should be a cd that came with the printer. put that in your computer and follow the directions on the cd. this will install software so your computer will recognize the printer. then you are good to go. good luck!

connect power to your printer, then connect the data cable (USB or LPT) between your printer and computer, then insert the drivers CD into your PC, wait for instruction from it.

How can I reset my HP black ink cartridge? -

I ve just refilled I want to reset my ink cartridge in the printer so that i can keep track of the ink levels. Could someone give me instructions on how to do that with that cartridge? Thanks :-)

This site should help you

at the front, above the place where the paper prints out, there shoud be a piece of plastic sort of sticking out, click it up while the machine is on (but not too roughly) then the empty slots will slide out.

open windows explorer like my pictures for example gt; turn on your printer gt; press Ctrl+P gt; preference gt; maimtenance

It does it automatically. When you put in a new ink cartridge, it will see that it is full.

TAKE IT TO GEEK SQUAD THEY LL HOOK YOU UP.

What is the best printer to buy for school purposes? -

I am looking for a printer that is very economical when purchasing the ink. At this moment, I have canon s520 and the ink is very expensive about $50.00

Look into the new HP C3180 or C4180 (C4180 if you would like to do photos as well. Both these machines are inexpensive and the ink prices are much lower than what you are paying now. In fact, you can buy both cartridges for the C3180 for about $15 each. Both these printers will copy/print/and scan, but if you only want to print and don t need scanning or copying, go for the HP 5440 deskjet printer. A good, inexpensive printer with cheap ink.

well I ve leraned my lesson! If you wanna be cheape look for a printer with a great dela of INK!!! Dont buy a cheapy one that will cost you a fortune in ink refill s I m not kidding they sell each color for $40+ each! i went today to look for a niffy one. and I see all the combo ones hold like 4 oz of ink! and than the refills are $46. I thin I was looking at the Canon scanner [rinter fax and photprinter all in one. than the staples guys showed me the ink thing!NO way! It was one small black and one 4 oz that holds three colors! there are tricks to refilling these but printer companies are getting tricky trying to sell more ink. Anyway I left the store!

buy your ink for a LOT less at 123ink.com thats where i get mine, its DIRT cheap and good stuff..... Get a Cannon i560, color, works great, and good price!!!! Keep your current USB cable you will need it.

Buy your ink thru ebay. I love my all-in-one HP printer. Prints, scans amp; copies. About $100.00

I would recommend a Laser Printer, if you re going to be printing alot of notes. A Black-and-White laser printer is good enough. The toner (the ink) is expensive, but you can print up to 1000-2000 pieces before the ink runs out. At the moment, what you re using ( Canon s520 ) is a colour bubblejet printer: I guessed ink is expensive as sometimes the colours are used to mix the colour black as well. Why don t you discuss with your parents or your siblings, or even classmates / room-mates on investing the laser printer together? You can use the Canon s520 only when you need coloured pictures, which I assume, you wouldn t be required to print coloured stuff as often for school. Use sparingly then!

Go to a local store (Staples, Best Buy, Circuit City) or whatever you have near you and state your question to a salesperson. They should be able to help you make a choice. If possible, go to a store that sells both printers and ink so they will know the ink price for sure!

Well, how about 60 cartridges for $30. I m in UK, so I looked up the USA costs for you on the system I use on my EPSON. My ploy was to look for Continuous Ink System first, then find which printers I could use the system on, then match the candidates up. Beware that some systems are not pre-filled . The system costs may look expensive until you realise that for (on the link below) you get 60 cartridges worth of ink ($250 in normal cartridge costs)... recover the cost of your printer by the time you have used the ink!!!

Go to a site that sells ink and check out which printers have lowest prices for ink: http://www.printpal.com/coupon10.html?kb… I think Lexmark is pretty low and I thought some Canon products were pretty low. I have Hp and it is really high.

I recommend EPSON C67 printer - works just fine !!

How do I install a Magicolor 2300 DL printer onto a MAC computer? -

I have a MAC computer and I need to install a Magicolor 2300 DL on my computer. Can you please tell me how? Thanks.

There is no driver available that will allow you to connect this printer to a Mac. It will only work with Windows.

Have you tried using these drivers? They should work nicely: http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/rastertokmXXXXdl http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/foo2zjs http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/pxlmono Or the generic Postscript? PCL6?

Whats the difference (visually) between an inkjet and a laser cartridge? -

My Relay for Life team has been collecting the cartridges for a fundraiser, but we just re-checked the website that we re using, and it turns out that they only take inkjets. We have two types of cartridges gathered-- large ones in cardboard boxes and small, hand sized ones. Which ones are the inkjet cartridges? Also, if there s any chance you know of an organization that will let us use laser cartridges in our fundraiser, that information would be much appreciated. Very, VERY appreciated! Yes, I know-- stupid question. Easy points, right?

The small ones are ink jet. The large ones are toner or laser cartridges. I personally don t know any organization accepting laser cartridges, but they are recyclable. You may get a couple dollars for each of them.

the large ones are laser cartridges the small ones are ink jet

inkjets are the small ones

Here is a link that lets your org signup for fundraising with used laser toners and inkjet. http://www.recycle4charity.com/store.tpl…

Can you turn a black and white printer into colour? -

I recently purchased a Brother MFC-7340 laser printer, not knowing that it only printed black and white. Is there a way to make a black and white printer print colour?

Attach some felt-tip pens to the print head, and when you want to print colour, use the alternative quot;mode=colourquot; driver.

No you can t. You have to have color ink to print color pages.

How can I make print larger when I print from a web page? -

I am highlighting text, but is very small print. Is there someplace to make this print larger before I print it?

It depends on the printer, but what I sometimes do is hit Print Preview (usually click quot;Filequot;, then select quot;Print Previewquot;), then select quot;Shrink to Fitquot; - then increase the percentage to over 100% (how big depends on how big you actually want the print to be). Only catch is it can run over the one page you re currently viewing. so you may get multiple pages on your printer. Good luck!

How high does the print resolution have to be for me to have a decent crisp image? -

I m using both corel photo x2 and photoshop cs4 to create an 8.5quot; x 11quot; image with the resolution of 250 pixels/inch. In corel the text in my image looks smooth but in photoshop a bit pixelated? I m concerned on what it would look like in print/hard copy

In corel, the print and screen drivers are more realistic as to the final ouput. Open the image in corel or whatever, and resample it at 600 dpi. That s it. If it s slightly pixelated, just go under the effect tool in corel and apply a slight smooth or a slight blurr. When you print, use glossy paper and you don t have to choose quot;BESTquot; settings for a crisp output. Just select quot;NORMAL. At 300 dpi, the print should be very nice. If you don t mind wasting ink, then select BEST mode as your final print.

My printer has a parallel port and a usb port. Can I connect and print from two different computers ? -

using these two ports. Ex. My home PC connected with the parallel port and my laptop with the usb port?

You can do that only if your computers won t run at the same time with the printer switched on because even if you are not printing anything your printer and one of the computers are permanently sending a connection signal. At this point if another computer is blocking this signal by sending it s own the printer is confused. It s a little bit complicated.I hope I made myself understood.

Yes. Me amp; my friend do that in my office.

How can I print screen directly to printer? -

The key says print screen but in reality it simply copies it to clipboard. I need to print the current active screen when I push the print screen.

I believe you can hit Alt+P for it to print on the printer and not from the clipboard

on my pc it is ctrl + p. Report Abuse

How do you stop the ejection of a blank page before document starts printing on the next page? -

I have a HP 4315v All-In-One Printer When I submit a document to print a blank page is ejected and then the job starts to print. Is there a way to stop the blank page ejection go right to start printing?

You sound like you may have a hardware problem with your printer. go to http:://www.hp.com to check support documents. The control board or the pick up assembly may be acting up. If this is a new printer, get it fixed under warranty asap. The only way it may be a software issue is if it only happens in one program. If it happens in multiple programs, reinstall the printer driver. You can also see if there is a firmware update on HP s website for that printer.

How much money would I save NOT printing from home? -

I can print out black/white copies at school for $0.11 a page, and I need to print out 30 pages. How much money would you assume I would save printing these out at school? Basically just the equivalent of textbook material, mainly text with assorted images. Just estimates are fine Thanks

how much does it cost you to print a page at home? probably less than 11 cents a page. it is $3.30 at school.

It depends upon what kind of printer you have. Most inkjet printers cost anywhere from $0.10-$0.50 per page. So you may ver well be saving printing at school.

may save something

printing at home is actually cheaper :) if you have a laser one

i thnk its cheaper at home. at school for me, its free. xD

What do I need to print out pictures from a computer besides photopaper? -

Do I need a photo printer? Photo cartriges? Can I use a regular printer with photopaper?

u can also use normal A4 papers.. u dont need special ink cartridge, just ur printer s normal cartridge

You can use a regular printer with photo paper, nothing special needed. Just bring up you image on the computer and click Print. Some printers have a connection where you can plug your digital camera directly to the printer.
