I am planning to buy a new printer to replace my old epson printer. What should I buy? -

I ll be needing the printer for document printing and occassional photo printing. I am starting to like photography a lot, so I am looking for one that allows me to print photos easily (I only print a few favorite pics at a time, so I don t need to go to a kiosk). Price and durability is always a good thing.

As an registered owner of an Epson printer I got a legal notice about a law suit that had been settled with Epson; they had set the printers to show empty ink too early. So no I would not trust Epson. Which, brings up my next point, it isn t the price of the printer it is the price of the refill cartridges. With an ink jet those can get to be pretty expensive so I would go on line searching for a few printers and then check the cost of the ink cartridge refill Then figure out what you want to do with it. Do you want to print photos or documents? Probably you want to do mostly documents with a photo now and then. So you want one that can handle standard sized paper. That will only narrow your choices down a little. Here are some companies that can give you an objective comparison of printers: Cnet.com: http://shopper.cnet.com/2001-3155_9-0.ht… Biz.net: http://www.bizrate.com/printeraccessorie… Then once you have an idea of what you want then you can go to the store to look for one or buy it on line.

I just bought a HP F4180 and so far I m very happy with the print quality (have had it about a week now) http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Deskje… (wow just noticed I save about $15 from the current price whoo hoo) side note: I found out that printers get updated about every 6-7 months so you probably won t be able to find the same printer you bought last year

a pencil

If you are concerned about the running costs......then look for a printer that can use quot;Continuous Ink Supply Systemquot;. This applies to some Epsons, Canon, even HP. Cuts your ink costs by 90% even on initial use. The systems are cheap!!!!

a new epson.

I replaced my Epson printer with a Canon Pixma Ip4200, it does a very good job on photos. The Epson R300 was good too, but the six ink tanks were expensive to keep replacing, although I can t say the Canon costs less overall to run... one irritating thing about this printer is thr fact that there is a slot for a cd carrier to print directly onto cd s - but for the North American market the slot is blocked by a plastic cover. The tray can be ordered from australia, but i figure i ll make my own eventually. (lots of instructions on the web for doing it, too).

Look out for HP printer

How do I save pics to comp from a DVD? -

How can I freeze frame a movie or home made dvd and save the screen shot to my computer or printer? I don t have a dvd player in my server.

You need a DVD player software and a DVD drive unit. Usually a DVD player software comes on CD/DVD with your computer or DVD drive unit. Allmost all DVD player software have the screen-shot feature.

How do i get all the computers in the house to be connected by one printer? -

I was wondering if it is capable to connect all the computer in my house into one printer, so if it would b easier for someone to print the files they want to one main printer.

There are two ways to do this. For both you need the computers attached in an Ethernet network. Share the printer on the computer that it is attached to. This is free, but the system that the printer is attached to has to be on all the time, or at least whenever you want to print. Make sure that you enable printer and file sharing on the computer first, then enable sharing for the printer. The second is to get a print server, either wired if you can hook it separately into the network, or wireless if you can not and have a wireless network. This costs money, but means that you do not have to have one computer on all the time.

You need to set up a wireless network, and you need to get a wireless adapter for printers, which can be bought at any large electronics store... you can ask an associate for the details...

How do you check how much ink is left in a cartridge? -

just wondering, i have Windows XP and i wanna check the amount of ink left in the cartridge but i don t know how.

if you installed the printer using the software CD then the quot;HP Solution Centerquot; is on the desktop. Just open it when the printer is connected via USB cable and it will let you know the ink levels. However if the ink cartridge has been refilled then sorry you cant know the ink levels because the electronic chip does not reset.Just go on printing until copies start fading.

If you installed the software that came with the printer, there should be a quick start or desktop icon that allows you to check ink levels. Otherwise, print until your are out of ink. The software is only a guess of the ink level based upon the amount of printing that has been done.

Which kind of printer? You may need to contact the manufacturer of the catridge.

How do I print wirelessly from my Dell Vostro 1000 Lap top? -

I already have a desktop computer connected to an Epson Stylus photo R380 Printer using USB Cables. There is another lap top in the house, but neither lap-top can print wirelessly to the printer. Do I need a Print Server? Any recommendations?

create a basic network this will enable all of the computers to print via the desktop pc. This machine has to be turned on all of the time though, or at least when you want to print. to set up a network ensure that all of the machines are members of the same workgroup. go to startgt;control panelgt;systemgt;computer name. do this on each machine and change the workgroup name to WORKGROUP (the name doesn t really matter as long as they are all the same). then reboot. now turn off all firewalls (you can leave the xp one on) on the desktop enable file and printer sharing (goto my computer and right click your c:/, then select file sharing and click thru) on the laptops goto startgt;printers and faxes and then add a printer Next goto startgt;printers and faxesgt;add a new printer. click next then select the quot;a network printer...quot; button then next and select browse for a printer. once it has been found just add it. go back to startgt;printers and faxes and ensure that it is now your default printer You can also now also use the pc as a storge drive for your laptops by sharing sections of the harddrve(s)- eg to share a folder called c:/downloads goto the c: drive on the pc, right click on the downloads folder and select sharing and security. once it is shared it will have a liitle hand under it to show you that it is shared. on the laptop now goto startgt;my network places and select view workgroup computers on the right hand side. you will now see your shares good luck daryl http://www.imaginarynumber.co.uk

You can print to any printer attached to a computer on your network. 1. Make sure you have a network set up with the same Workgroup name on all computers and with the file and printer sharing turned on. 2. Go to Faxes and Printers and then quot;Add new printerquot; 3. Choose network printer 4. Your network and Workgroup should come up. Within the Workgroup you should see both your computers. 5. Choose the computer with printer and it will show which printers are attached to it. 6. Double click on the printer you want and complete the installation. The only tradeoff with this setup is that the computer with the printer must be on and not in standby mode, unless you can set it to wake up when it receives a print call from the network.

if the printer is not bluethooth enable , i mean wireless , I don t see how u can print

To print wirelessly, the printer has to be wireless. I dont think the Epson is. I have Epson 320 amp; I know its not. Check spec s on the 380 and see if it has a wireless card in it. If not, you cannot print wirelessly to that printer.

is this epson printer a wireless printer

Which all-in-one inkjet printer should I buy if I want to print directly onto CDs and DVDs? -

I m looking for an all-in-one printer+scanner that is capable of printing directly onto inkjet-printable CDs and DVDs. I ve found only two models, HP Photosmart C5280 and Epson Stylus Photo RX595. Are there anymore of such kind? Do Cannon and Lexmark make such all-in-one printers with the features I specified above?

Canon MP610 does. http://www.canon.com.au/products/all_in_one_printers/all_in_one_printers/mp610.aspx All printer consumable can be found @ www.123inkjets.com.au

As someone who was in the computer hardware business for years (though I rarely sold printers since I couldn t compete with the crazy rebates) I have always recommended Epson. The print quality is excellent, even on plain paper. I have photos I printed on a 640 about ten years ago hanging in my office which still look good, though not as good as the ones from the CX8400 on glossy paper. The warranty is excellent. For a year, Epson will express-ship a replacement and pick up the old one. I had one customer who needed this. He called one afternoon and had the replacement two days later. Another client bought a Canon. It needed two repairs within a few months. Each time it was taken to the repair center, then picked up a few days later. This client runs a specialty printing business and this really hurt. They have since bought an Epson CX5000 and have had no down time since. All name brand ink is expensive, but you can get cheap new replacement cartridges for Epson (not refills which I never recommend) for under $5 at http://ccs-digital.com/ink.asp I have been using these for years. The RX595 scanner/copier/printer prints on DVDs. It uses 5 colors plus black and has high photo quality. It s on sale for $80 after $55 instant rebate. http://www.cheapstingybargains.com/54342…

HP, Epson and Canon do make CD/DVD printing models (although the Canon is an advanced model). So I will tell you a little about each of them. HP uses a tri-color and black ink cartridge (everyday setup). If you want to print photos, you need to take out the black and replace with a photo tri-color cartridge (6 ink printing). So, depending on what you want to print, depends on which cartridges are installed. Epson uses 6 individual ink cartridges. This way you only replace the color you are out of (tri-color, if cyan is empty, you throw away yellow and magenta. Also applies to the photo cartridge). With the 6 color setup, you do not have to change cartridges for text and photo printing. The selections you make in the print properties, tell the printer to use 4 inks or 6. Canon uses 5 ink cartridges (although I do not know why they use 2 blacks). 1 black pigment ink and 1 black, cyan, magenta and yellow. So you do not have the option of 6 ink printing for photos, but it will print photos, just not as good as a 6 ink printer. Here are links to each. You can check out their spec sheets and do your own comparison HP http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shoppi… Epson http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consu… Canon http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro… Personally I recommend the Epson, since I have it and I love everything about it. I recommend it to everyone and I know a bit about printers.

How do you print blackamp;white instead of grayscale? -

I have a Canon MP160 printer. I can only print in grayscale but I want to print in blackamp;white. Grayscale printing actually uses color ink instead of black ink.... How do you print blackamp;white? I can t find that option in microsoft word.

That setting isn t in Word, it should be on your printer options. So go into print, then select properties by your printer and see if you can find the option to print in black and white. It might be in advanced settings, I do not have that same printer, so I can not be sure where it is.

Whats a good online store to buy HP ink cartridges from please? -

Cheap/reliable/good service? Is it ok to buy non-genuine/no brand ones or should I stick to original ones?

I used 365ink.co.uk recently. I bought an HP compatible ink cartridge as it cost me just £2.55 instead of £20 - so far so good. The Pamp;P was free too and I used Quidco (a cashback website) and got 10% back via them. It came straight away - even though I ordered between Xmas amp; New Year. If you re planning to print photographs it s probably best to stick with HP branded cartridges - but as i m just printing low quality emails so as long as it prints I don t care!

I bought cheap at HP Ink amp; Toner Store. http://astore.amazon.com/buy.cheap.discount.hp.ink.cartridges-20 Report Abuse

With HP, stick to genuine cartridges - avoid remanufactured and compatible cartridges - even with the delivery charge, the price is competitive I use Valushop because they are reliable and genuine http://www.valueshop.co.uk/info.asp?MFGn… you may find cheaper ink if you hunt around. best to search by printer model to be sure I ve also used Amazon on occasion

I have an HP and I have used compatibles and refills and no problems. I bought compatible HP cartridges from Ink n Toner UK. I found them reliable and quick to deliver. The printer will not show ink as full when run with refills or compatibles but it will print. The link below is to compatible number 15 cartridges and they are £5 odd each. The site can take a few minutes to load so if seems stuck its just how it is. http://www.inkntoneruk.co.uk/product.php…

If you are in the US or Canada I d suggest Castle Ink -- here is a link: http://www.castleink.com/_Hewlett-Packar… They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and are really good about sending replacements if you have any issue at all with their ink cartridges.

i always buy from e-buyer. if you do - opt for the supersaver delivery option.... it always arrives just as quick as paying for quicker delivery.

at Click2ink, also get a 20% off coupon for them at http://www.couponwolf.com/Computers/Clic… to save some money

You can bye genuine ink catridges from www.hp.com

cheapest I have found are BEST PRICE INK,-USE COMPATABLES THEY WORK FOR ME.

I need to print a 20 mil heavy magnetic sheet. What printer should I use? -

I ve tried a HP all-in-one, and an Epson Stylus C88 but the sheet is too heavy and it jams up the printers. Calls for recommendations to the printer companies have not been too helpful either. Also, I can t use a laser printer. Does anyone know of a good inkjet printer that will successfully print really, really, heavy material? BTW 20 mil is equivalent to 5 pieces of standard paper stacked together (I think, though I stand to be corrected). Thanks!

nothing consumer level. you have to get a large format printer

Why doesnt my printer work after I turned the spooler on? -

When the color cartridge is empty and the black cartridge is full, Does the HP LaserJet continue to work? -

I ve got a good offer for used HP LaserJet 2550L but i don t really need to print in color. can i just replace the black cartridge and keep using the printer even if the color cartridge is empty?

yeah...just change your settings to print in only black and white and it will print just fine. there should be a button on the top of your printer that says print black and white or print color and push the print black and white button. If not, go into printer settings under start menu and click on printers and faxes. from here, right click on your printer icon and go to printer prefrences and go to services and click on the icon that says HP toolbox and go to configuration and click on the scroll bar and select black print cartridge only

The printer will probably whimper and not initialize if the color cartridge is empty.

you have to change your print settings to quot;print in grayscalequot; and it will print color things as black, gray, white etc

Only if you are not printing anything in color. It has to be all Bamp;W or greyscale or you will get an error.

yeah

What options are there for an in car printer? -

Hi my boss is a courier on the road interstate six days a week and I would like the option of sending him orders, faxes, emails that he can print out eg he has to sign a document. i have no idea what s available, but was thinking of an equivalent to an incar fax or something that prints from a phone. He doesn t have a Blackberry, but if that s what was needed, we could get one. Any suggestions? We re in Australia. Thanks a lot.

The simplest thing would be a laptop and a small printer running off a cigarette lighter adater. Get a wireless phone card for the laptop and you have a mobile office, you could even fax from it. I don t think it could recieve faxes but email is better anyway.
