How do you make a printer network-enabled? -

I have a HP Deskjet D4160 if that helps.

If the computer it s connected to is part of the network and the computer in question will be on when people try to print, then you could share the printer via Windows File and Printer Sharing. If not, for that printer you would probably need a print server cause I don t think it s got built-in networking capabilities. (Print servers used to be actual computers, but these days the technology seems to have advanced quite a bit and they are a lot smaller then they used to be.) Network Print Servers that support USB 2.0, includes both wired and wireless: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis… (Not sure if the printer is USB 2.0 or 1.1, but having USB 2.0 support would be better either way since newer printers will likely be USB 2.0.)

Unless it has a network card you can t. If it is a standard printer you can buy a print server and connect that to your network, but always check if it is compatible first. If your printer is multi-function, it will NOT work on a print server.

Set up the NIC, obviously! If your printer doesn t already have one, then simply use a print server.
