How do I wirelessly connect a printer? -

I want to connect my Windows XP computer upstairs to my other computer s printer downstairs. How do I do this?

Before you can start printing to a shared printer, you have to configure the PC to which it is attached and each of the PCs that are going to be using it for shared printing. To share the printer on a PC running Microsoft Windows XP: 1. Select Start gt; Control Panel gt; Printers and Faxes. 2. Right-click the printer and select Sharing. 3. Click Share This Printer. 4. Enter a name for the shared printer (the name that the other PCs see). You might choose a name that relates to the printer s location, or to its name, for example quot;FamilyPrinterquot; or quot;DownstairsPrinterquot; 5. Click OK. To set a computer running Windows XP to access a shared printer 1. Select Start gt; Control Panel gt; Printers and Faxes. 2. Click Add Printer. The Add Printer Wizard runs. 3. Click Next. 4. Click the option: A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer. Click Next. 5. Leave Browse for a Printer selected and click Next. On the list of shared printers, click the desired printer, and click Next. 5a. If a security warning appears, click Yes. 6. When prompted whether to use this printer as the default, click Yes or No and click Next. 7. Click Finish.

If you don t have one yet, you need to buy a router to hook up to your computer downstairs that has internet. Next you need to buy a wireless card for desktops. Put that into your upstairs PC and make sure it comes on. Now on your downstairs PC make sure printer sharing is enabled (not too difficult). Now just turn on your printer and computer downstairs and you should be able to print upstairs.

you need to setup a local network between the two computers and enable file and printer sharing. The network setup wizard found at all programsgt;accessoriesgt;communications will do that for you. This way you will also be able to print from PC upstairs something which is even at the pc downstairs on the printer downstairs. Hardware-wise you will need a wireless router downstairs and wireless card on the PC upstairs or a wired router and wireless cards for each PC.
