How can I get my printer to connect to my computer? -

My dad told me that I wouldn t need a disc or anything to get it to connect to my computer, but it doesn t seem to want to connect. I have a Lexmark Optra E+ I know it s old and maybe that s the problem, but I m not sure and I really need it for school.
