I always lose my connection from my computer to my printer. How can I correct this? -

I have Windows XP. My printer is a Canon Multi Pass F60. After my system is up for a while I try to print and I get a Windows message saying printer is not connected. I try to turn the printer off and back on. Doesn t help. Try disconnecting printer. Doesn t help. I do have a Canon printer status bar but it does not let me reconnect printer. The only thing that works is to completely shut down Windows and restart. Then the printer works. If the printer is off after I reboot the status bar knows it is not connected. I turn the printer on then I have to reconnect it in the Canon status bar. Which is no big deal. It is a real drag to have to reboot when I want to print. Once I reboot the connection lasts for about an hour or so. I do not believe I am doing anything to disconnect the printer.

It could be a lose connection at the back of the printer or a software flaw. I would try to properly seat the printer cable after I cleaned the connection with a brush (could be just dirt on the connections). If the connection on the printer seems lose to the touch, see if you can get inside and tighten it. If no-go, then reinstall the software and have Control Panel recognize it as a default. (The new installation, that is.) ;-)
