I don t think it possible to send a fax without a fax machine, but my friend insists it is. Is she right?

She is right. Either use a fax modem hooked to the line or if you use DSL check the home page of you provider or of the manufacturer of you modem /router. Some routers have the ability to work with fax programs if you install an additional driver (CAPI).

One of them named quot;fax by modemquot;. what you need is : 1. analog modem plus phone line 2. windows fax service already activated 3. scanner if you want to send copy of your printed document. with this you not only can send fax but you also can receive fax just like ordinary (and real) fax machine. you can print received fax or save it to harddisk and open it via windows fax console or notepad or wordpad or Microsoft word. you can get this program from sourceforge.com/sourceforge.net, or softpedia.com or freewarefiles.com. There s plenty of other freeware fax service there, but this is the simplest and easiest fax program I ve ever operated.
